I've been doing some heavy research on the SCC. I'm tied between purchasing a manifold that's welded for the application or manufacturing one myself using the VW manifold and fabricating runners off of that.

I've read different ideas on runners. I'm not a welder so welding runners is lowest on the list. Someone used spring supported radiator hose, another used a silicone hose, and I'm sure PVC is an option as well. I'm concerned about sagging due to heat and overall functionality. I'm looking for ideas of what's worked best for your application but more importantly, what has withstood the test of time/wear?

Regardless of options, what diameter pipe/hose do I need to be looking for? One end needs to obviously fit into the rubber boot of the down tubes but also needs to attach to the manifold with some sort of rubber boot/hose clamp.

I plan on one more round of cleaning my existing 4 carb rack. After this, I'm moving on to the carb mod. I miss riding my GL and it's completely useless sitting in the back of my garage not running.

A few good reads before you pull the trigger.

Thanks, I read these once and do plan on another go around before doing anything. I have 3 projects going at once (including my wing). I have spent more time recently researching than wrenching because I don't want to extend the projects any longer than necessary. :read:

Well I'll say, the pvc intake would be the simplest, fastest, and least cost.
I have no direct experience but a few others say it runs good and no reports of it sagging.
Schedule 40 minimum, schedule 80 better imo.
My concern is household pvc becoming brittle over time heating/cooling and exposed to UV.

I custom made my intake with 1" electric pipe and made head flanges. Adapted then to the larger intake size of the vw manifold. It works well. It was very time consuming without proper tools.
The old 1 barrel Solex 32 mm carb was pretty easy to jet.

Well, carbs are out for one more round of cleaning and adjusting. Keep your fingers crossed it runs well. Otherwise, SCC is next!

Best wishes.
+1 for your carbs. If you still have a problem you could contact McGovern's Carby Cleaning Service! :smilie_happy:

I'm going to start researching parts for the conversion anyway. I'll get everything lined up just in case...
