Has anyone put 1200 exhaust on an 83 1100, and know if it will line up to the back frame bolt points? I know 1200 engine is different width but I already have a 1200 motor installed with 1100 exhaust.

Measure both from the rearmost exhaust stud to the frame bolt. I think slip joint between muffler and header will give you a little flexibility.

Yeah I might have to get the mufflers down and roll out the 1200 FI motor that has the headers on it to measure them....unless someone with a 1200 would be so kind as to measure theirs? :beg:

As soon as I can get down to the barn where I have to hide the bikes from my neighbors I'll measure. Been pretty busy here.

When I first installed the 1200 motor in the 81 frame, I tried to use the 1200 exhaust. I could have got it to work, but it would have required fabricating some type of connecting bracket at the rear attach points. I put the 1100 exhaust on instead since it bolted and lined right up.

I have the 1100 exhaust on my '82 with the 1200 engine. Because the 1200 engine is a bit wider than the 1100 my centre stand interferes with the muffler on the left side. 1200 exhaust would cure that.

I'm thinking the center section hits the rear tire on 1100s also ...I'm thinking its a no go in more ways than one....hmmmm this might be 1000 problem ...I'm sure I tried this as an observation on hooch

Is there a final word on this? The reason I ask is that there is a nice '85 exhaust for sale here that I would like to put under my '82 with '84 engine.

I can fab a rear bracket but will the centre part of muffler hit rear tire? Will centre stand still work without mods?

Thanks
Brian

If this helps, on my '86 the distance from the rear most exhaust stud to the mounting bolt on the frame is "25 ( inches) and I have a set of '80 1100 exhaust and that distance is "20 if I am looking at it correctly, I do know the 1100 exhaust doesnt work on my 78 1000 because the cross over pipe hits the rear tire.

I would say, then, that the 1200 exh cross-over would interfere with the rear tire by a wide margin. When I get down and look across the bike where the rear exh mount point is on the 1100 it lines up with the front edge of the rear tire. So if the rear mount point on a 1200 exh is 5" further back, and if you look at the picture I posted the cross-over is only a couple of inches ahead of the rear mount, then it would interfere by several inches.
