hello again so ive gotten the engine out of the my 1986 GL 1200I to replace the stator when i went to unplug it from under the seat the wires were all burnt and the plugs melted together well 2 of three wires were burnt any insight as to what caused it? I have been running it without the rectifier/regulator hooked up( just running not riding) because the regulator was fried i had a new one put on but mechanic said the stator was trying to burn out the new one so he disconnected the new one but i did ride it home initally about 7 miles

The connection between the spades gets corroded because water/moisture gets into these plugs. That causes the connection weaken which then creates resistance. The resistance causes heat which melts the connector. It is a very weak point in the Honda wiring. All of the plugs and connectors are susceptible, but only the stator connection gets the most amperage.
