I bought a '79 GL 1000 two weeks ago, because my wife loves bikes and has never had one. I haven't ridden for 25 years, but my dream bike has always been the GL 1000 ...

When I found out that there we a number of small things that needed to be replaced on the Wing, I decided to get a parts bike ...

But when I go to buy the bike, I find out it actually runs and is pretty clean with has roached out chrome. So jokingly I tell my wife that I'm going to make her a set of training wheels so she can ride one of the Wings.

Then I find out that there are actually DIY kits for adding outboard wheels for your motorcycle! (i.e. training wheels)

Does this mean another parts bike? And the beginning of an obsession?

Yes and yes. Sorry. Wish I had better news. Should get your affairs in order. (Like making space in the garage).

Thanks! Created the album and added captions. So many pretty bikes out there. Hope I can beautify mine too.

Welcome to the madness!! :moped:

Lucky man.... a man who's wife wants to ride her own Wing, I think I just heard angel trumpets!

Yep build them both bro, and yes this is how it starts. Man you are in for the time of your life. Plus finding THIS community, do you play the lottery? If not you should.

Both bikes are beautiful.

Note to self: Next time I trailer my bikes, I won't have them on the sidestand (or centerstand).

Ideally, they should be transported on the suspension with it about half loaded. With a stand down, hard bounces on the trailer are transfered directly onto the frame. It could do damage if the bouncing is severe.

Well, I've sure seen a lot worse looking Wings. You have done good. Welcome and keep the project pictures coming.

Thanks! Makes sense. I had two different old time bikers help me get the bikes on the trailer and neither mention that tip.

Up until two weeks ago, I had never trailered a bike. Had my first bike (CB 550K) towed off after an auto wrecker ran a stop and relocated my front wheel to under the motor. That bike stayed in Rhode Island and did not make the trip home. I was really lucky, got caught by the fairing and did not go over the hood. Broken wrist and gashed knee.

Bought a new bike as soon as the cast was off. Never been back to Rhode Island.
