this is handy
https://www.steves-cycles.com/oldfiles/gearspredsheet05.html

at 4000 im showin 65 in 5th....the 83 at 4000 is 78.34mph.. think im gonna like that seeing most of my driving is 50 and above
file.php
I thought the 82 had a taller 5`th gear, according to the chart not so.

Something not right there Jeff as the 82 that I rode was 500 rpm slower at 70 mph than the Rats Nest ( 81)

Agreed. Neither the speedometers or tachometers on bikes in general are dependable or accurate. Often they are referred to as clocks. Pretty much any clock running is inaccurate. Broken clocks however are right twice a day.

My 84 engine that's suppose to have the same gearing as the 83 motor, runs right at 4000 rpm and 70 mph.
These charts are hard to trust, same for the tachometers.

For my money that sounds right Dan as the 82 was 4500 and the 81 5000 at 70mph if memory serves me correctly and I was lead to believe that the 83 dropped another 500 rpm off due to its taller gearing.

yes the 82 is taller than 80-81 in fourth and fiifth gears in the motor 83 -84 motors geaded exactlly the same ....what dan posted was about right....most charts are full of it...when dan put in 1200 84 motor ....nothing changed but motor size
