Some of you remember my 2011 Ford E150 van (288K miles on it.)
I posted engine misfire thread about it.

Well my son and I went camping/dirt bike riding again this past three day weekend and on the way home, the engine died.
I heard knocking sound when I left the desert hoping it would last but alas the knock got louder and louder and after 20 miles or so there was no oil pressure.
Came home on a flatbed tow truck.

I think a member Old Wrench posted that there was a business who sells rebuilt engines.
I PM'ed and email'ed Old Wrench but so far no reply.

Does any one else know where I can get rebuilt engine installed in southern CA?
Or should I just go to regular mechanic and ask them to fix it?

Dang thing only lasted 288k. They don't make 'em like they used to. :smilie_happy:

Rather than have a local garage overhaul that one, if it were me, I'd be shopping around for either short blocks (if you trust your heads) or long block crate motors. There are some deals out there. Google "Ford Crate Motors" and have a gander. Many will not ship to a residential address, but unless you're doing the swap, that won't matter.

Going this route and having a shop do the install would be a LOT quicker and you'll be less likely to encounter issues. Most crate motors come with a decent warranty.

I used a shop many years back in San Fernando Valley called Eddings engine rebuilding. Worth a call at least for comparison costs.

Called them.

$4000 for just a rebuild.
They don't install engines any more.

Yeah, and that's not a bad alternative either. Cheaper than a "new" crate motor. The install cost will be the same, of course.

Some I see there are low miles. If you got 288k, imagine how much is left on a 65k example...

what size engine? Will you do work yourself? what budget? to many unanswered questions.

4.6L 2valve V8.
I need an installer. I don't think I can do it myself.
Budget.. well, the cheaper the better but I need the van so will have to pay whatever reasonable price.

Lot's of used engines can be bought with a warranty from wrecking yards (around here). See if LKQ or American Auto Salvage are around your area. We've had good luck with them. The install should run in the 1K range, that's a couple years old info. Engine prices run up with lower miles, so a little higher miles might help lower the cost. Just fyi

I bought a used 1MZ Toyota 3L for my Avalon from LKQ. Supposedly a 50k mile specimen. Runs like a Singer sewing machine. Three years and almost 60k miles ago and zero issues. It had a 2 year 24k mile warranty. Car itself has 220k and I have no reason to buy another - or obtain an auto loan!

Thanks!

LKQ appears to have the same stocks as AutoMotix and the prices are $400 cheaper.
But AutoMotix offers 1 year warranty against 6 month from LKQ.

Hmmm..
Should I buy extended warranty if LKQ offers it?

I am googling and seeing lots of "performance" engines. I guess they are for racing.

Why not call your local Ford dealer and see what engines they sell.
