Well the day is finally here, the wrecked 1800 my buddy Scott bought has arrived!

We quickly set about discovering what all the issues with our new beauty are, and thankfully they are relatively minor! The front is obviously where it was hit, it'll need a new radiator on the right side, but we already have that, and new forks and wheel. Unbelievably, the triple tree is intact! There was an oil leak on the right side, but we've got that under control for now and new bolts on the way since all of them are bent. We started the engine and she runs smooth! [emoji7] So here's a few pictures of what we're dealing with.

That looks like fun... what's the plan?
The plan is to get her back on the road and probably in my garage...[emoji2] I honestly cannot believe how good of shape this bike is in for what had to have been a heck of a hit to the front end.

Day 2, or should I say evening 2 since we both work all day....anywho, tonight I borrowed a bike jack so we could get the front end torn down. My oh my what a pain in the arse it is to get a bent up front end off! First the front wheel didn't want to come off, but we persevered and drove the axle out of the wheel with a socket extension, then the forks took their turn, but again, perseverance paid off and we drove them out of the triple trees with a vengeance! We had thought the triples looked good, but once we got the forks out we noticed the steering just wasn't quite right, so off came the triple trees for inspection, we could not have been more wrong. The triples were WAY bent...but Scott's foresight saved us.yet again as we had a good set waiting to go on with brand new all balls bearings! We got the new forks set in place and lo and behold, our time was up, but we'll be back at it again tomorrow night. If things keep going well, we may just have a roadworthy bike by Friday night. Here's more pictures! I almost forgot, we replaced the left radiator tonight too.

Tonight we finished mounting the forks, put the front wheel back on, partially straightened the left front brake rotor, and did LOTS of cleaning! I don't know exactly where this bike was ridden, but I think we cleaned a good deal of the state off of it! At the end of the night, we had a rolling chassis again. Tomorrow nights plan so far is to do plastic repair on the fairing and some other pieces that are cracked. I learned how to replace the air filter on an 1800, if you didn't know, it's a pita! I can't believe how much stuff you have to take off to get to it!

This is one model I prefer to be dressed. Not attractive at all naked. You guys have made a lot of progress in a very short time!

Thanks everyone, when we first started talking about doing this, we thought it would be a 6 to 12 month process, thankfully the bike is in much better shape than anticipated! I told Scott to figure up what he's got into it and we'll work out a price, I'm falling in love with this wing, she's a beauty! I think I should be able to pick it up for around $3500.

Been following your thread - great progress, pics. Have an 1800 as well. Your pictures are a great for seeing what is under all the plastic.

As for the air filter, imagine if that was all you were doing.

Look forward to following the rest of your project.

Cheers

It seems the further along we get, the fewer pictures I take. Tonight we did some ABS welding on the fairing, mounted the new fog light, found out the air controls don't work so we'll have to get a new one, remounted most of the plastics and fired her up! It was too late to take it for a test spin, but there's always tomorrow. There's still some minor things to do, but we're almost there!
