OK. The original intent was Lake Havasu, but the plan has evolved into a tour of Death Valley instead.

Here's the original discussion if you're interested:

https://forum.classicgoldwings.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12779

The last couple of posts to the original thread had to do with gas availability. Really, the only time things might get interesting is if you go "off the grid" i.e. Rte 190. There are side trips - like to Scotty's Castle - but much can be seen from the main drag which has gas at both Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells if you pay the price. I carry an extra gallon on my Valk which goes dry at around 150 miles. I've only been worried a couple of times out here, but both times were due to poor planning.

I'll post a bit more here soon. My buddy and I rarely plan much, but lodging might be challenging unless backtracking is done out of the park immediate area.

As an FYI, it's 135 miles from Death Valley Junction to Lone Pine - both well outside the park - if you don't stray from 190 (136 up to Lone Pine). Easy even for the Valkyrie although gas is still available at several locations inside the park.

I fully intend to do at least one side jaunt - down to Badwater, the lowest point in the continental United States at 282 feet below sea level!

Still interested.
My email notification for updated threads is broken so kinda difficult to follow once the thread goes out of portal list..

As for the gas, I guess I can carry 5Gal jerry can. LOL
W/o the camping gear, there will be so much space.

Maybe the snow will be gone through the passes. Don't think so this year.

Well, there's always the long way around - i.e. the coastal route! We won't have to worry too much about snow coming in from the south...

read title without year.................that going to be two by two? :)

Did sound a bit like a facist death march. Needed a hyphen. I suspect this "march" will be a bit more pleasant.

:smilie_happy: I was thinking the same thing! The 2018 edition of going on foot to an uncertain end.

My blasted riding buddy might be having cataract surgery. Not sure yet, but it could move the date back two or three weeks. I will post some specifics once that variable has been defined. It's entirely possible that we'll keep march in the plans and I'll be running solo.

Stay tuned. We're on the cusp of committing. If we wait too long, it'll be too dang hot. It'll be in the 90's there this week already!
