    Replacing Coils 1975 GL1000

Wow, I can't leave you guys alone in here too long or you guys take it in a new direction. :whip: Just kidding... so I opted to go with the "Green" coils. Now, I know that C5 setup is awesome and all, but at this current time I don't know if I'm ready to drop those monies on it. Partly...

    Replacing Coils 1975 GL1000

I get that... but I'm still trying to figure this out... the GL1000 "original-oem" coils are at 3ohms... and the Dyna DC1-1 are 3 ohms... so why would you want to add a resistor such as what's on the link to make it 4 ohms? I'm sorry to be so dense... but I'm not too up on my electrical...

    Replacing Coils 1975 GL1000

Trying to circle the OP back in... I have original OEM coils with points and condensers. If I were to replace the coils with the Dyna DC1-1 "green" coil do I need to do anything else to my orginal setup for them to work correctly. I've read that Randakk's blog said that this could be done and...

    Replacing Coils 1975 GL1000

Yea, I've read that buy a lot of the guys on here. I've been hoping to get thru this year before doing anything else to the bike... but it seems as it's just one thing after another and I'm starting to feel as if it's a money pit. Thanks for the heads up.

    Replacing Coils 1975 GL1000

I'm loosing spark on 1&2 and I can hear the coil sparking at lower RPM. I'm still running Points and Condensers. Aside from trying to find OEM, am I able to get the Dyna DC1-1 3Ohm coils and have them fit and work correctly? As shown here...

    Overheating issues...

I like the beer drinking time type of work. All gauges are working normally. I think it may have just been a scaled radiator with an older thermostat. It runs perfectly now.... until the next gremlin shows it's head.

    Shorter Rear Shocks

So I rode for 60 miles today on the highest setting for the spring. It was decent and I didn't bottom out. I will in the meantime look for an equivalent 12" eye-clevis version and hopefully a heavy duty one at that. I have a goal of taking this puppy on a long trip and may need to be able to...

    Overheating issues...

Well I did about 60 miles today and it wasn't as hot of a day as when I had issues. But, everything was normal... in fact it was on the lower side of the spectrum. - Had a local shop de-scaled the radiator, they even re-welded all the fittings just for good measures. - New Thermostat and...

    Shorter Rear Shocks

Seems that the 1200 are 14.5" and the 1000/1100 are 13"

    Shorter Rear Shocks

PO had installed MDI (universal?) shocks that are approximately 11.5 inches open. They are fairly new; It does add to the look of the GL1000 and it helps in height since I'm a shorter dude. But I've run into a few issues... I am a heavier dude and I don't know if the shocks are a good fit...

    Overheating issues...

I thought the hole has to be upwards (top)... I believe it says it in the Haynes manual.

    Overheating issues...

I don't believe there was any air in the system... when it cooled and I removed the radiator cover the coolant was right to the top and it did draw the coolant back down from the reservoir. I also replaced the reservoir hose earlier this year, so that should be in good condition with no air...

    Overheating issues...

Hey I'm back! 1975 GL1000 So, after going for a nice joy ride and putting about 200 miles on the bike this year, everything seemed to be just fine. Again I took another trip with it on a really warm day (85F) and noticed that temp gauge was in the higher end of the scale to almost in the...

    Gl1000 Clutch Woes

This was Genius! I dabbed each spring in vaseline and placed the plate with the springs attached in the fridge overnight. Spent 2 hours finishing up and slowly going at it... I think both finding the warped plate, replacing it and the springs in the right spot was key to finishing this...

    Gl1000 Clutch Woes

So in the meantime while I wait for another 6 bolt spring plate... I decided to take the friction/steel plates out again just to make sure it was seated correctly and I came across this... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8OSlI ... sp=sharing Turns out that this new plate from Barnett...

    Gl1000 Clutch Woes

Well I checked with some weight and I see my in-lbs torque wrench is off by +6 in-lbs of torque. I still don't think the wrench had anything to do with it. Since I had even torqued it lower around 50 in-lbs (56 in-lbs adjusted) before it snapped the plate. Do the springs move after you set...

    Gl1000 Clutch Woes

Finally changed out the basket and reinstalled the engine... Before doing so I attempted to reinstall the clutch whole so the engine could just be slid in. Well I've read and read about the six bolt bearing plate that you have to gently, evenly and diagonally reinstall the bolt so as to not...
