    1977 Goldwing GL1000

Thank you for your input. I believe I have the parts you reference. I just feel like I am over my head with the bike. I really like the bike and would like to keep it, however, right now I am just throwing parts at it. Throwing parts at anything, hoping that you will fix the problem is not the...

    1977 Goldwing GL1000

I am selling my 1977 Gold Wing GL1000. I bought the motorcycle with the hope of restoring it. When I bought the bike I was told it needed coils, however after replacing the coils and ignition wires I still am unable to get the bike to run. I have come to the conclusion that I am in over my head...

    Ballast Resistor

I plan on changing over to E-Ignition, once I am sure I have fixed the problem. Did the 1500 coils work with the E-Ignition or did you need to change them again? Also, going with the 1500 coils, did you need to go to a different spark plug? Thanks again for all your help Jeff

    Ballast Resistor

Figured it out, the coils are only firing one cylinder on each side. Need coils, any suggestions?

    Ballast Resistor

I saw that in the service manual, but I do not know where to get the service tester. Is there a way to use a multi-meter to test them or is the service a multi-meter? Jeff

    Ballast Resistor

I received it on Saturday and installed it yesterday. Thank you very much. Unfortunately, the bad resistor was the result of the problem, not the cause. So, I am back to square one. It seems to me something is causing the ballast resistor to overheat. Any suggestions? Jeff

Ok, I got the wiring for the points and points sorted out and set. I have a good spark through the points, but a weak spark to #1 and #3 cylinders but no spark to #2 and #4. Looking for suggestions. Jeff

I know, already priced that. Going with electronics ignition to start and maybe later new coils.

I have thought of that and how well does that work? Is it easy to install? Will I need new coils to go with the system?

Bike will turn over but not start. Guy I bought it from said it was the coils, can't believe both went bad at the same time. Looking at the manual on the forum there are many different components that can be bad. Starting with the obvious. Going through and checked the things I can check. Points...
