Well, after encountering a case of the dreaded stator connector-related charging issue on a friend's bike yesterday...

https://forum.classicgoldwings.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11707

... I took the liberty of doing an inspection of my own '78 this morning. While my stator connector is fine, I do have issues on the solenoid side. I knew that I'd need to be giving it some love soon (I inherited the configuration), last time I looked at it, there didn't appear too be any trouble. In addition to the heat buildup across rotten butt connectors, the 2-conductor connector crumbled in my hands and has pretty ugly contacts.

After unsuccessful visits to two separate auto parts houses, I came back and poured through the archives here for a suitable replacement. If there's a record of it, I missed it. Anybody find a nice alternative? (Even ebay seems a little sparse. I don't want cheap Chinese, and I don't want the new rubber-gasket type).

you ever notice how the stator plug in motor seems to get brown color like the wires are getting burnt....it because the wires there are not solid ...for some reason honda made splices right there in the plug and this can go bad to and be reason tor failure ...ive seen stator fail that were strait wired and soder ...i busted the plug apart and discovered the splices honda made and how bad the connections were heated and burnt

I've never ordered from them but found this place researching for the future possible use so you might check them out. They advertise OEM style connectors for Japanese bikes and appear to have a lot of the style used on the Honda's. Don't know about the quality, so buyer beware. https://www.vintageconnections.com/

My connectors are from Vintage connections are they are the same quality as OEM!

I remember you having that problem joe, i have an 85 harness stipped down now and I was facinated by how many factory splices there are through out the whole harness, so far I haven't found any bad splices, guess I've just been lucky even though it melted the red wire all the way to the fuse box. :smilie_happy:

Man oh man, vintageconnections is my ticket to ride, thank you for that lead, backlander.

If they are good enough for Gerry, they're good enough for me. Now I just have to wait for them to come in.

Thanks to all!

Yup. Sold. I already have one on order for the solenoid connector. My 39 year old stator connector is in amazingly good condition. It has a factory "hood" protecting it. Maybe that has helped...
