For those still following, you know that I modded the Cycle Innovations manifold with 1" PVC sleeves. This made the manifold usable. Before this mod acceleration was sluggish. Going richer on primary jet helped but that's counterproductive for economy. I jetted the carb best I believe it can be on this modded manifold which ran very good and got me 39 mpg. I'm not happy with it though because idle would waver and sometimes load up from over rich, as well there is no heat added to it. The CI is a fair manifold, I just don't like it. It is too large in my experience. So I've gone back to my custom 1" runners with the type 4 plenum. On this build I have a heat plate. I'm happy with the running. It idles steady and plugs look pretty good at idle. Not as clean as I'm after yet. On a test ride I immediately felt better throttle response where CI felt lagging. Take offs are smooth and high rpm power and 'racing' the bike is enjoyable with plenty of git up. I am sure some will disagree but I don't see any reason for a second barrel once everything is configured properly. Least not in my case with my runners and a type 4 plenum. I'm going to continue tweaking the idle mixtures to get it leaner. Likely my next move is more idle air bleed on this Solex but the dft's are staying on the shelf.
