I have a 78 GL1000 and come to find out there are aftermarket pipes on my bike. There are a lot of over priced exhaust mufflers out there for sure. I've done a lot of research on this for my bike looking for the middle of the road type of sound. I've heard most ppl run HD mufflers. I also have a set of 76 mufflers for this bike smaller than yours of course but there quiet. One thing I've found out also from the vibrating your telling is in my case the c/v slides were hanging up causing it to vibrate under a load. I used a 44 cal gun barrel brass cleaner on a drill to polish them up (over a glass table) to see when to stop. Again unsure if there set up with C/V slides on the 1200.
