Basically what I said in the title. My fuel gauge and temp gauge without warning started going all the way to the high positions. Both concurrently. Not sure why. I was out on a 4 hour ride. It was only doing this for about a half hour period. Then it went back to normal. What would cause this?

I suspected the coolant was low or something, but when I checked it, it seemed fine. Also the fuel gauge was going crazy at the same time.

Theories? Solutions?

Nice solution.

Until I get that replaced, is there a fuse or something I can remove until the I can get the device swapped out? People say to avoid having the high voltage reek havoc on the gauges.

Not sure on the 1200. I had an Aspencade, but it's getting fuzzy. Maybe there's a connector you could pull for a while? In fact, now that I see you're dealing with a 1200, I'm not even sure it uses the same 7V regulated circuit feeding the gauges. Probably does, but I'm not positive and haven't looked at the schematic.

<<EDIT: I looked. It does. I think that's your huckleberry. >>

7v regulator has a connector. Just unplug it.
:good:

I am not sure about the 1200 gauges but some gauges read high when disconnected from their sensors. (VDO)

Not quite sure where this is, beyond that it is "behind the gauges". Bear in mind, this is a standard 1984.
