I bought one for the 1200 but I have a concern before I install it.will the bulb be too hot for the plastic lense on the headlight?your thoughts

I'm sure it will be on low most of the time,I guess there's only one way to find out.

I've been running a 55/100w h4 in the 1200 since about '88. Unless it's night time I run the high beam, which is about 90% of the time. Haven't had any issues with the housing or the bulb.

I didn't get to it yesterday, had a bit of a gasoline spillage in the garage and had to let it defunk, will try it this weekend.

55/100w would be my preference but I will admit new bulb technology where the 55/65w bulbs are plus 50% work really well without the current draw. That being said I love my 12/24w LED H4 bulbs drawing even less current. :good:

I considered 55/100 but saw the 80/100 and thought I would give it a shot.

I don’t like the fact that you are using 6 1/2 amps all the time that the headlight is on. If it was mine I would be wiring up through relays to eliminate all that current through your switch gear.

Thanks for the info, hadn't considered that

Good point. The ignition switch is already over taxed with the stock loads.
Putting a relay on that 80 watts will really make it come alive.
I put one on the black (main load wire) leaving the ignition switch, the black from the switch then serving as the relay trigger only. The load black then fed directly from the battery thru the relay. All the lighting brightened up nice, this mod and changing the fuse block to blade fuses is a huge improvement.

Dan,can you draw a pic of the wiring.I'm an electrical bonehead

Relay put in between the ignition switch and the fuse block:

I would prefer to add 2 relays so that all your switchgear is only switching a couple of hundred milliamperes. That being said on the Rats Nest I have just gone with a 12/24w LED bulb which I love.
