Are there any tips on removing the bearing retainer or do I need to buy the honda special tool?thanks

On a CB750F I did, and on a GL1000, I used a scrap 1" x 1/2" x ~12" aluminum bar that I drilled holes in and inserted drill bits reversed to engage two opposite holes in the retainers. Remember to drill (not deep) out the stakes first! I was able to drill just three holes to permit using the tool on both front and rear retainers. Then clean up the threads on the used retainers, reinstall and restake in another position.
