My project is a 76 GL1000. Was my Dad's that he bought around 1977/78 from a Oklahoma State Trooper up by Enid, OK who never asked if he knew how to ride. He rode it fine all the way back to OKC until he got to his first stoplight at 5pm rush hour and forgot to put his feet down lol. He then had it painted sliver and did all the electronics and lighting himself being a electronic technician. If you think about he was one of pioneers for that time putting electronics on a Wing. Picture from hospital newspaper where he worked around 79/80.

He rode it until he was diagnosed with MS in late 80s it was parked outside under a bike cover around 1990, until my mom give it to my uncle for working on and repairing her van. He tried to get it started in late 2000's. He got it running but it was rough. But that was it was placed back outside without a cover for a yr or 2 when it was moved into a barn and sat there till 2016 when i asked if I could have it back. He agreed. Pictures in barn:

No problem Mc thanks. So this is where im at so far with my project. Ive tried to get the motor to turn by hand from the center pulley then tried the kick start and tried the trick of putting it in first and sitting on the bike and rocking it back n forth with no luck. Anyone else have ideas?

Look forward to following the restore. Good Luck.

Take the engine out and put it on its side and soak a set of cylinders at a time, give a smack with a good size hammer every now and then to loosen the piston rings. Just a thought.

Nice work so far ...looks like it will come back nicely ...most would give up on this ...your a lot like me and don’t let scary looks run you off ...
It has alot of sentimental value and i have read a lot of similar GWs that where in the same state and where brought back to life
