Former '82 GL1100 "The Slug"
In April 2018, I ordered a dipstick from Cyborg (NGW) for the Slug. With knee surgery, physical therapy, kidney stones, herniated discs (man, I sound like a basket case), I was a bit delayed in the installation. We are still in the middle of the debate about selling the Slug, but I thought she deserved her dipstick. I had to change the oil anyway, so now was a good time. (BTW, I was shocked to learn that when I checked my maintenance record, it had been since July 2017 that the oil was last changed, and only 2300 miles since then.)

I checked the oil level on the center stand and made a mark, then on the side stand and made another mark. Lastly, I checked it on the ride-off stand and it was the same as the center stand mark.

I did my best with my metal punch letters to make "F CENETERSTAND" and "F SIDESTAND".

Can you use the oil on the stick to lubricate your knees joints or what? Just joking, of course.
:smilie_happy: I wish! Actually, my back is worse than my knees right now. We discovered some bone material missing from the inside of my L4 vertebrae along with a crushed L4/L5 disc. I had the Slug out last week (To go to physical therapy no less). :hihihi:

I put my heavy sheepskin back on and that helps cushion any shock on these short trips.

Damn, I hope your back gets better, or at least more manageable.

Had same problem with my back. Get a tens unit. They are cheap and really helps with the pain. You can get them at Kroger's. Cvs, etc..
Thanks Wes! I actually do have one and at this point it doesn't help anymore.

Silly question...will that dipstick work on GL1200s? I know, I know, 1200s already have a dipstick, but I like this one better!

Alan
I'm not sure. I have not worked on a 1200, only ridden one for a day. Others might know and chime in.

That dipstick won't work on the 1200.

The impoprtance of commas: That, dipstick, won't work on the 1200. lol
My MIL gave my kids identical T-shirts that read:
"Let's eat Grandma.
Let's eat, Grandma.
Commas save lives."

Oh my gawd, I hope more commas don't become a trend around here. I frequent a KLR forum, and they are nuts for them. Irritating so, and mostly unnecessary. And I hope we all can find better things to do than poke at anyone not using them properly.

Fortunately, punctuation is inexpensive. Unfortunately, many people use it like a pistol in a gangsta video...

Today, I had dinner at a restauraunt that had a sign nicely, and very professionally hand-painted on the exterior wall:

Pasta's, Pizza, Taco's and Subs...

(sigh) :Awe:
