My first question, is this where to ask a question about how the Forum works & what other general things are, or is there a place to answer or ask my questions?

By the way this is the first forum I've ever really been involved with, so they may be stupid questions

When I look at, like GL1200 forum opening page there are on the left little symbols, some are stationary, some move; does this mean something?

Is there a way to know which posts I've viewed? and/or which pages of the forum I've viewed?

Can the opening page of the forum be sorted to display like subjects (ie timing or clutch, etc)?

Thank you for help

Mike

Click view unread posts and those who have read will not be displayed. Not sure about the moving sympbols but you can use search to find your subject or look at the bottom of the page and see similar subjects. There are tutorials of how to do stuff in forum help and faq's.

Yep, this is the right forum to ask questions.

There is a legend of what the side icons mean at the bottom of each forum category.

There is no way to mark what posts have been read or to sort subjects.

Well I log in through the "portal." Then on the right under my name is several links to different places on the forums. One of those choices is "view new posts," that is where I always start. If there is a post or thread I have already read it will show up in a lighter shade of blue than the posts I haven't read. Hope this helps.

The search engine can be frustrating at times like most search engines. Sometimes you get exactly what you want and other times you get way too many posts. I think the best thing to do is start a new topic about your item(s) and then you will get some great responses ( usually) and many members will post links to old topics, items etc to head you in the right direction. You are already heading in the right direction Mike with this post :salute:

Thank ya'll very much, all most helpful. Can't believe I missed the symbol explanation. I generally do start with unread posts.

Monday I'm going to change the timing belts due to a post about they shouldn't get too old, mine are from 9/04 and 22k miles

Always a good idea to change them timing belts when you are not absolutely sure of their age. There is a great tutorial in this forum on how to do it as well. Good luck! Its a pretty easy job and a good entry project on the bike.
