I have been suffering from a torn meniscus in my right knee (root tear in the back) plus I sprained some of the other ligaments on the inside part of the same knee back in December. Tough injury to heal from let me tell you. One of the things the Doc keeps telling me to keep swelling down is to use ice or cold wraps 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.

Killing some time, I trudged into my garage and pulled out my trusty thermal gun (I know.....any excuse to pull tools out) and checked the temp on the cold wraps. Then checked the temp of my skin at the knee after the wrap was on for 20 minutes. Hmm.....42 degrees average at the skin.

It just so happens that it is 42 degrees out today. I figger, if I stand/sit outside for the same 20-25 minutes, the skin on my legs would drop to 42 degrees. :headscratch:

Well, I can sit on my bike outside. :headscratch:

I can also sit on my bike.....while it is traveling down the rode. Doesn't wind chill factor in? :headscratch:

So, I took the old girl for a 25 minute ride around town at 45 MPH average speed (don't want too be having too much fun. This is serious medical business.) With the outside temp at 42 degrees, my legs seemed to chill pretty quick. Wouln't you know it, the skin was 42 degrees when I got home! :yahoo:

So......riding the bike (by sitting in the seat) for 25 minutes in 42 degree temps cooled my knee down to 42 degrees! Just following Doctors orders ya know! :hihihi:
