I'm trying to cram a 2,000 mile round trip into four days with two nights camping outside Indianapolis on the Indy 500 weekend. The last time I made a long haul in a single swoop like that was many years ago abet on a sportbike, from Bullhead City, AZ to San Antonio, TX. Has anyone here done 14 hours in the saddle?

Damn that's some impressive travelling on machines that no one would consider attempting now. I did all my touring back in the 90's two-up with my young daughter on a Yamaha FIJ1100 with a Wiseco 1314cc resleeve. Across deserts and over mountains sun and rain with no amenities other than a added backrest. The longest was from San Antonio to the Blue Ridge Parkway to Lancaster, PA then back solo. 4,300 miles total holy #### I never bothered to check!

I had a 1978 CB750.
Good 'ol points & condenser.
My first two bikes were SOHC CB750Fs, first up in Fort Wainwright, Alaska in 1981 and second at Camp Pendleton, Cal in 1985. Up and down numerous times from San Diego to LA with never a mechanical failure.

I think my CB750 was the most reliable bike I've ever owned.
With the timing just right and the carbs sync'd, you didn't even hear the starter engage. It just fired to life when I touched the button. Every time!

I was sure they came out in 1974.
But..... my memory ain't what it used to be. These days I need a moment in mid sentence to remember what I'm talking about.

I'm going to depart on Friday at 4:00 AM from Houston towards Memphis to make time and avoid local traffic, eat and rest an hour in Memphis, then head to Terre Haute, IN where the campsite is. Gate closes at 11 PM. I think it's doable. Hopefully

My memory tends to exaggerate but I think 1969 was the first year for the SOHC 750, 1979 the last as it was replaced by a DOHC version which I also owned. That's a long run for an engine design and deservingly so.

I done 13.5 hours in the saddle on my valkerie done the whole length of Spain in one hit tbh not recommended

You'll have to AVERAGE almost 65 mph. Four or five gas stops (0 mph), stretching out, traffic issues. Good luck. It's doable, but I hope you're young and healthy.
Yeah that's pushing it to make an event. There's Tom Sawyer Campground at Memphis on the Mississippi, that'll be the first stay then Sat & Sun at Indy, the return can be a straight shot. Come to think about it the returns on my other trips were always longer and faster

You know if you set this up right you can get one of those iron buttons patches if so inclinded. Longest i have ever done on my wing is from St.Paul MN. To Billings Mt. Only stopped as gas stations for fuell and pee break. Ate cold chicken from the cooler at a gas station. That 2up with my wife on our honeymoon in 1986. We have many memories of that trip, we both still smile when we it comes up. By the way that was pulling a homemade trailer. Still both the wing and the wife. I am a lucky guy. Good luck and keep the tires down on yours

If anyone here is interested in going and swapping grandstand seat tickets during the race shoot me a pm. Motorcycle parking is $30 in the infield by the museum, a convenient and safe spot to leave your bike. From my seat a few rows up in Stand G it's a short walk.
