My 1st. Goldwing... My 3rd. Vintage Rebuild

Why all the interest in a thread that was closed almost 3 years ago? The brakes have been repaired and operate fine with no measurable difference in MPGs. Not worried about fuel mileage - if I was I would probably be riding a scooter not a 49 year old liter bike. I posted the 31 MPG as...

    Single Carb Manifold differences

JohnB, I have the same manifold from the guy in Missouri. Don't think he makes but one design which can be installed in either direction. I chose to install it with the cable mount towards the rear and did not need to shorten the throttle cable. I just tied it up along the upper frame rail...

1976 GL1000 - Cylinder #3 runs cold when on choke

I'm confused - you stated the when you are warming up the engine that # 3 is not firing. So, why are you missing with the carbs that were professionally rebuilt?

    fouled plugs

Fouled plugs are caused by too rich fuel mixture, oil past the rings or valve guides, or loss of spark, and maybe in a rare case an air restriction. Not sure what you meant "plug doesn't get wet." What is the condition of the plug that it needs to be cleaned? If it is not wet I would assume...

    Single carb conversion

WoW! $24.00 for a single carburetor jet? I think that is why I soldered the end and drilled it to determine if I needed the smaller jet before I ordered it. Just a suggestion. Bud...

    Single carb conversion

I don't know how accurate 40 year old tach will be so I don't depend on one a 100%. My bike idles around 1100-1200 RPM. After warming up it might drop to 900. But it is smooth and doesn't fluctuate when idling. And 900 sounds more like 700 to me. Also, I still think a 55 idle jet is too...

    Single carb conversion

I have been following your threads for your conversion and I don't think you will solve your issues turning the adjustment screws... The Bypass adjustment should be set where it was at when new (if you don't remember where it was set it to mid-position), and the Volume adjustment 2 1/2 to 3...

    Single carb conversion

Here's a link to a thread that describes both of the carbs you are working with TheSamba.com :: Bay Window Bus - View topic - Idle adjust on 34 PICT-3 FAQ The H30/31 as best I can tell is identical to the 34-3 but has a smaller throttle plate. The 30 PCIT 1 does not have a By-pass screw...

    Vw carbs

eatherton and I have been messaging about the carburetor I have. I took it out of the box and it is not what I thought I had - it is a Euromax (round bowl) 30 PICT 1. As I explained to him I ordered it to correct the over rich condition I was dealing with, but when it arrived I had resolved my...

    Vw carbs

At one point during my conversion I was considering taking the 34 off and replacing it with a 30. I even bought an original 30-2 Solex, but before it arrived I determined my overly rich condition was caused by the electric choke not working. Removed the choke and adjusted the carb and it runs...

    Single carb conversion

I can't find the carb conversion video. The newest video is 4 years old and about Presetting the carbs on a ST1100. Congratulation on the conversion. I had minimal luck with the adjustment screws; worked best when set to initial settings. Removing the choke - the choke makes it way too rich...

    Single carb conversion

Here's the link to my conversion. I got a lot of really good advice from the other members of this forum. It was not difficult to convert, but time consuming, a lot of seat-of-pants tuning. Hope this helps you with your conversion - it's worth the change. 1975 GL1000 Single Carb Conversion...

    GL1000 shifting to neutral issues

Change the neutral switch. Located between the bottom of the engine and the lower right frame rail. It is a bugger to change, you must loosen the engine enough to lift it about and inch to create clearance to remove the switch. But before you remove the neutral switch, check the diodes and...
