Location
Victoria, BC,
Will be heading out on Saturday morning for locations east - thinking 2 months on the road. Have a wedding in Ottawa end June, sister's 70th birthday party end July. Will be visiting other family and friends all the way out to Halifax. Want to ride the Confederation Bridge to PEI, Cabot Trail - in car but never on a bike, Baddeck - Alexander Graham Bell stomping ground, Digby scallops, Louisbourg Fortress, Drumheller for the dinosaurs, Vulcan - for the Trekky in me, car museum in Steinbach east of Winnipeg, and more. Going to be a good trip.

Have installed an OSMO Action camera on the Spyder to try and document the trip with some video, takes photos as well. Have to learn how to upload to YouTube, have done some investigation into this, but not too clear on this at this point.

First leg of the trip will be Victoria to Osoyoos with a stop in Abbotsford for a couple of hours. Visiting family and friend. The transit time from Victoria to Osoyoos is some 7 hours, but the first leg of the day is to Abbotsford that takes 3 1/2 hours, got a boat ride to do. We'll definitely be in Osoyoos before evening.

Fuel costs have skyrocketed, a litre of regular here on the island is approximately $2.31 CDN. Should be less expensive as we head east.

Have camping gear and intend to camp along the way. Won't be camping in the mountains or northern Ontario where the mosquitos are waiting for fresh meat, or if the weather is rather uninviting.

First post, more to follow.

Thank you Gentlemen. This is the trip from 2020 until the world fell apart. Going to Tuktoyaktuk next year, then we have a trip down south to do - Grand Canyon and such. Want to do the four corners too and up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Good on ya Sir!! I did a chunk of that trip but up thru Maine to Haifax and picked up wife at airport and on to the the rest of the trip. 3 Weeks and a great deal of fun. Great people and great sea food everywhere we went. Enjoy it and ride SAFE!!

Haven't been using my Delorme inReach Explorer for some time. Will check the MapShare aspect, but if all is well will post web site address. MapShare takes track points from the inReach and posts them on a map.

Good evening - in Osoyoos for the night. Did some video and took a couple of pics but forgot the micro SD card laptop reader thingy (technical term). Will pick one up on the way. Good days travel. Roads were good, lots of wind pushing me around. Only straight roads were coming out of Vancouver to Chilliwack. Took the #3 - Hope/Princeton and even when you have four lanes, straight sections are not that plentiful. Will update with pics when I get them off the SD card. The MapShare web site works well. This is the site: Garmin Explore™

Saw one deer and a black bear. Pretty much had the road all to ourselves, not a lot of traffic, we expected to see more. Gas prices were not too bad. Victoria was $2.319 CDN per litre at most stations, some were $2.349 CDN. Filled up in Abbotsford at $2.159 CDN per litre, good deal. Rest of the way to Osoyoos it was in the $2.159/$2.199 CDN per litre. We can live with this.

Tomorrow it's off to the Frank Slide.

Going to relax now. Apologize for the lack of eloquently pontificating about the first leg of the trip.

Cheers

Was able to get the first two days photos off the camera SD card. Interesting what you recall at 0300 hours in bed. I had put the thingy in a different container.

The first day was not too bad as I mentioned: Here are a couple of pics from that day.

Ready to go.

Day 1 - 1.jpg

A couple of the day ride. BC is a beautiful province to ride.

Day 2 was another good ride. Decided not to fight the Spyder and SLOWED down, it's not two wheels. Much better ride and easier on the shoulders. Many good places to see and that will be for another trip - see something new every time I/we travel these roads. Always love the ride through the mountains, lots of variety to view and the roads are in very good condition. Had the majority of the roads to ourselves. Lots of ups and downs through the passes. Kootenay pass still had a good bit on the mountain tops and alongside the road.

Was treated to seeing deer, bear and smal horn sheep.

Water levels in the rivers and streams are up this year and look very cold. Won't be dipping my toes into any.

Lots of people show interest in your ride and make suggestions as well. Finding there are a few new Tim Horton shops along the way. Stayed in Blairmore for the night at a Travel Lodge. Not too much to look at from the outside, but the interior was completely renovated.

It was a beautiful day for a ride. Here are some pics that again show how beautiful BC is.

Day 3 was a write off. We had planned to visit the Frank Slide and Vulcan Alberta, but the day started with rain. Discussed our options and decided to get on the road and ride until out of the rain. We'll look at visiting these two places on the way back, if not it's another road trip - these places aren't going anywhere.

Had rain all the way to Swift Current Saskatchewan from Blairmore Alberta with a few Kms of no rain, but not that many. Trucks going the otherway on the two lane road(s) kicked up a good spray and every now and then some water - got smacked in the face several times. Had our wet gear on but water still seems to get into where you don't want it.

No video or picture taking today. Have to start again tomorrow. Still not into the documentary mode, but have a long way to go.

Tim's is a great place to meet people who are interesting, supportive and interested in your trip. mentioned this about day 2, and day 3 was no different.

We have our camping gear with us, but Sonya and I agreed that this is not the time to be adventurous.

Have checked the weather forecast for tomorrow. Not looking too bad, but still a possibility.

Cheers
