It isn't mentioned in the manual that I recall, but some use a little Hondabond in the corners (sharp edge next to the bearings). I usually use Indian Head gasket "shellac" to hold the rubber gasket to the cover while installing the advantage to this product is that it is soluble in acetone, so easily removed. But, any way you do it - make sure the head and cover surfaces are clean first. Most of my issues with valve cover leaks have been the screw seals. New seals always fix it.
 
Replacing my valve cover gasket. On 1978 gl 1000 goldwing. Is it recommended to use sealant as well? Thxs
If you're using a new gasket no I definitely wouldn't use it cuz if you have to adjust your valves periodically as long as it dont leak I wouldn't use it
