The tach was crying like a baby...worse when the weather was cold. I didn't relish the idea of buying another 40 year old tach from eBay. I drilled a small hole in the side of the tach, at about the 4 o-clock position down near the chrome. Sprayed some silicon lube inside, moving the nozzle around to coat as much as possible. First time I fired the bike up the needle hung up when coming down a few times but eventually started behaving normally. Seems to be working perfectly now...no more bouncing or noise. I closed the hole with a dab of black RTV
