    The Mayflower: AKA - I bought a non-running '82 GL1100

I bought a brake caliper kit, but now I'm wondering what people use for the hose between the rear brake reservoir and the caliper. Since I'm already replacing the rubber in the rest of the system, I should do that as well.

Lets do some Honda lock exploring.

Nope - Wholesale only. I still have a few options left.

Lets do some Honda lock exploring.

So here's where I'm at. Information on rekeying 40 year old motorcycles isn't easy to find. However, I'm finding a lot of information that states Honda uses a 3-wafer system in other bikes at that time. Honda used to sell a rekeying kit for around $20 to rekey a lock. Which, even if they...

    The Mayflower: AKA - I bought a non-running '82 GL1100

The backrest idea makes sense. I wonder if I could find one... More stuff done to the Goldwing today - replaced the rear pads. I now have a rear master cylinder rebuild kit, as well as a brake hose. Think I'll just do the trifecta and buy a brake caliper rebuild kit as well. Then took it...

    The Mayflower: AKA - I bought a non-running '82 GL1100

Didn't realize people could order the front fairing separately. Those bags are a lot more rounded for sure. Can you fit a full face in there? That's one disappointment I noticed with the Hondaline bags that I have. As a solution, I may end up relocating the helmet lock onto the rear rack. I...

    The Mayflower: AKA - I bought a non-running '82 GL1100

The person I bought these off of had an '82 with an Aspencade/Interstate front and these bags on back. I think he was selling this set because he found another set that matched his bike's color. I'm a little confused to the combination of what appears to be a stock Honda front fairing and...

Where do I plug in the headlight?

Third - that's definitely for a Vetter - I have the same plug.

One question I do have - what were these fasteners held on with wingnuts used for? There's one on each side:

    The Mayflower: AKA - I bought a non-running '82 GL1100

Hondaline rack install. Removed the old rack first. (No pictures, sorry). First thing I did with the new rack was to use my poor-man's JIS screwdriver (a bit with the tip filed down) and made sure I could remove the screws for the rack locks. They were pretty tight after all this time. Then...

Lets do some Honda lock exploring.

Sure. PM sent. I was looking at that last night, and I think the wafers for the side bags are going to be completely unusable since the key is very different. I could file them down to fit - it would mean a lot of keys would open the lock, which isn't a huge concern, but that's still plan B...

Lets do some Honda lock exploring.

So next part - finding the wafers. No sense in doing the disassembly until I can rekey these. Lets think - top box has three locks keyed alike (two on the box, one on the rack) - that's key #1. Side bags are keyed alike as well, with two locks keyed alike on each bag, and one for the rack...

Lets do some Honda lock exploring.

Browsing around on the local Facebook marketplace, I found a person selling a full Hondaline rack and luggage. Picked it up today. But it appears to be a bit of a Frankenstein with keys - the top box isn't keyed the same as the sides. One of the rack locks is also missing a cylinder. Time to...

    I’m back!

Read your first post, and thought to myself that I don't remember the GL1200 lighting being that bad. Then I checked the pictures. Oh my!

Sources for brake lines these days?

Thinking about replacing the rear brake line on my 1982 Goldwing, since I'm finally getting around to the rear master cylinder rebuild. What does everyone recommend, and who has them online? Ideally, I'd like to purchase just the rear line right now.

    Hello!

    what did you do today

Oh that looks like a nice setup. Did the sidecar allow the bike to lean independently or not? --- Anyways, back to the saga - took the Goldwing over to NAPA for some more brake fluid and Harbor Freight because all the flare nut wrenches I had were metric. Other than the caliper end of the...

    what did you do today

Replaced both rear bleeders since the passenger side was clogged, but the rest of the system seems functional. This is my truck I tend to drive less than a thousand miles a year. I hadn't driven it since June, and had to get new tabs for it today.

    what did you do today

My best guess is that it is a late 40s KB-6. Anyways truck is back together, but passenger right won't bleed. Nothing even if I remove the bleeder completely. Asked my dad, and he says brake hose is the most likely culprit. Guess I have another job.

    Gnashing of teeth

Any chance of an old cable having some broken strands and stretching? I'd check that before pulling apart the clutch.

    Oil

I'll chime in with my usual. I'm in Minnesota, and I love synthetics in vehicles in winter. Around 10F and below, you can hear the difference. I'm totally on board with recommending putting synthetics in your car if you live in a place where you know how cold it is by how snow sounds...
