got a brand new Dyna on it....

was running good then started backfiring and not wanting to build rpms. Felt like a fuel filter clogged. Checked all that stuff but still wont pull right.

GL1000 been running great, then went to hell. 200 miles on carb rebuild, valve adjust, new timeing belts, and new ignition. Thought maybe fuel filter... nope. Notched gasket on fuel cap... nope. Petcock?.... nope, drained tank and blew in air, seems ok. Got fire at all 4 plugs. Opened...

I'm 6'2"/315..... still thinking about floorboards to get more leg room. As far as my ass i could use more room. Seems to be a nut crusher after awhile.

I thought it was... had to buy two new tires, caliper rebuild kit, brake pads, timing belts, dyna s ignition and filters.....and some elbow grease! Still came in under a grand.

Thanks for the props.... Its a 78 gl1000 with a 76 LTD Vetter, 88k. PO says it sat for 12 yrs. Consider myself lucky there were no major repairs needed. Think I did good for 682 bucks on Ebay...

Got her running today... WOW what a difference! Still thinking my problem was a gummed up mechanical advance, but its good to see her running good finally. Even got my idle down to 900. Thinking I will hook up carb gauges tomorrow to see if I'm still in sync. Thanks for all your support and...

OK finally got my new unit. Ya they were real friendly, but sure took a long time. Won't get to work on it till Saturday, will keep you updated. Thanks Hans

Didn't have points ..... I replaced a worn out Martek ignition, which I know nothing about... Just have to wait, I guess. Should come soon, tech told me last week, "it would be a couple of days". :fiddle: Mechanical advance seemed gummed up, so I PB blasted it. Hope that was my problem. :music...

Tried to install brand new Dyna s ignition, only to find one of the pickups was defective. :head bang: Took me hours of frustration with my ohm meter and test lite to find out my problem was with a brand new part. I've went through hoops to get a return authorization number to send it back...
