Lots of spark...was jumping a full inch! Scared the crap out of me!!! I also tried moving the plugs around to see if maybe I had a bad plug with spark...same cylinder not firing. So ... what else ?

Soooo.... Could I test it by moving a wire from 1 plug to another? I mean completely change out the wire on the bad plug. And see if the bad plug changes to another cylinder?

I changed my plugs today and when done, started the bike and it sounded pretty normal. I then , on a whim, unplugged a sparkplug cable, left rear, and there was absolutely no change.. all of the other cables when unplugged had an instant effect.... What's up with that? It seems to run fine on...

Is it normal for the idle to wander a bit? Seems like after riding for awhile my '87 will be idling a few hundred RPM too high, or too low. I keep a screwdriver handy and adjust, but...maybe there is a better solution?

The spring was there, but I didn't see a washer.

Oil Change DELO 400 SDE 15w-40 3.4 at a Oil Filter Change K&N 401 - Used old o-ring, the one in the box seemed thin. Added ATF to fuel. 1 oz per gallon of gas.

Ok. So I just changed oil and filter. Used Delo 400 SDE 15w-40 and a K&N KN401 filter. The o-ring for the filter was pretty thin compared to the one already in, so I just reused the old ring for now. But...now I hear a slight ping at idle....did i use the wrong oil? It's 93 degrees here today.

Seems better now. Adjusted the idle and then was able to quit using the choke. I think the choke was flooding it a bit, if that's possible? I think the PO tried adjusting the idle when the bike was cold.
