    Adios amigos

Well I probably won't be around that much anymore. I just sold my other oldwing a short while ago. Thanks for the insider tips and camaraderie. Who knows, I may restore another one when it cools down some. Mine were good bikes that gave me almost zero problems after the restore. Incredible...

Front brakes are mushy, what should I try?

I'll suggest this once more, it may have been overlooked. I have flushed, bled and rebuilt a lot of motorcycle braking systems and this method is fail proof for me with not tying the lever or pedal down overnight. I also flushed, bled, and repadded a GL 1800 with linked brakes this way and...

    engine rebuild,worth doing?

I used both Evaporust and PB Blaster on my restore. Evaporust on exterior parts and fuel tank and it worked very well for those but I wouldn't likely use it inside the crankcase My engine was never seized but did sit for over 12 years PB Blaster is an incredible penetrant, I dosed my cylinders...

Thanks everybody. Now a real dumb ? How do Goldwings perform

"USUALLY" a backfire when starting up indicates an out of time or ignition problem. Chugging could mean it's not firing on all 4 cylinders. An easy non tool type check is to: Start engine and spray water on each individual exhaust header pipe where it exits the engine. It should sizzle and...

    Stuck gear shift

Try rocking bike back and forth while fiddling with the shifter.

    1984 GL1200 Rear brakes stuck

Very common and likely. There is also a tiny return port in the master cylinder under the reservoir cup that can plug up and cause this.

Pulstar spark plugs- 12% more horsepower guaranteed. BS or worth a shot?

I don't know about those plugs as the only pricier motorcycle plug I used was an NGK iridium plug strictly for longevity sake. I did however try an E3 sparkplug in a notoriously hard to start 2 stroke weedeater. I made a dramatic starting difference over a convention sparkplug. Instant starting...

Need Help! Bike has been sitting for over a year.

With caliper on the bench and fluid drained: apply air pressure thru where the brake line connects, they will pop out. Do it with a soft rubber tip on your air hose blower from compressed air source. Warning: Leave brake pads in place to do this or they might become a supersonic projectile.

Reassembling1984 Interstate Best way to test

Randakk website has some good advice and info on putting an oldwing back in service that has setup for a long while. You might want to read it for yourself to be sure. Roughly from memory it involves multple oil /filter changes including one internal clean up cycle involving an 50/50 mix of ATF...

    Revisit turbo bikes?

I followed the story of a couple of guys on the east coast who successfully turboed a GL 1800. The GL 1800's are of course fuel injected, but with minimal boost and a stock engine it produced good numbers like around 200 hp. There was a lot of potential customer interest until the installed...

Yep, thats a massive lowboy to haul just his cruiser on, LOL. I know what he's think'in. An over the road trucker can see lots of the USA and probably has some layovers in some sweet spots with awesome roads and countryside.

    Head Gasket safe removal

I wonder if a fine (not a coarse) wire wheel chucked up in an dremel or drill wouldn't clean it up quick and spiffy? If used with care it shouldn't remove any aluminum.

Had to/Time to say Good Bye

Congrats, The wife will especially love the GL 1800 queen seat (pillion), ability to communicate (tell you her opinion on well, everthing) via on board headsets, and on and on. And like the old saying goes: If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. So then, happy wife, happy life. The GL 1800...
