    Installing Fork springs :(

Thanks Mike, I did find that tool in my searches. Those still require pulling the forks which I was hoping not to remove. In the end I didn’t discover a tool or a tool I could built to help with the forks in place . So I went down the make my own tool route. This basic design I found over on...

    Installing Fork springs :(

Hello, I'm working on a 1987 GL1200A. I've installed a sidecar and after some miles decided I needed more spring pressure up front. I'm older and weigh 140lbs. I remember last time I rebuilt the forks, I literally had my wife on the bike leaning against my back and shoulder to get enough weight...

    My 1986 1200 DIES!

DId you have it load tested? I have same symptoms and it was a bad AGM battery. One morning started fine, next nothing. Not like a normal lead acid where it normally gives warning af failure coming.

    Voltage leak

I would suggest you get a factory Electrical Troubleshooting Manual which will have the circuit diagrams. These are very complicated bikes and after 37years alot of crap connections could have been made.

    Death Wobble defeated!

I'm here to TESTIFY! Change wheel bearings, steering stem bearings and races, and just for good measure a new front tire. Test ride today, 5/1/22. On/Off throttle at all speeds up to 75mph indicated. On/Off in the before danger tank slapper speeds while on bumpy deteriorating roads. All the...

    GL1200 tires

I'm using the Commander II bought from Dennis Kirk late 2019. I've got about 11k miles and there is plenty of tread left. About 10K was 2 up touring the USA four corners of the country. I was pleased with their performance in all kinds of weather. I just installed a new Front CommanderII, this...

Remove auto cancel turn signal device

Finally have gotten the front end back together, after a little surgery to that black protector plate hiding its mounting bolts. So anyway I tested and those damn turn signals do nothing with that auto-cancel switch removed. Now just need some decent weather to get a test ride in. Yesterday 35F...

Remove auto cancel turn signal device

Hello everybody, The weather is getting nice and I'm iching to ride!! But right now the front end is apart for bearings and a tire. So that auto cancel device at the bottom of the stem is just a royal PITA. I've been riding for damn near 50 years and can do with the extra complexity. So can I...

    Clutch Hose 1987 GL1200A ?

Hello Everyone! Been awhile. I have the front end apart to tackle a sever wobble. And now I need to get on this damn goofy clutch. I've rebuilt both MC&SC, installed new clutch plates, did multiple oil changes to end up running synth MC oil. And still it wants to crash the gear change. I've been...

    LED headlite

I picked up an LED from SuperBrightLEDs.com to install in my 1200. Well worth the money and effort. The LED makes the old H4 look like a candle. I've swapped out H4s to LEDs in my BMW R100RT and my cars. The type I have has no fan but a large heat sink. I needed to "mill" out the inner bucket of...

    I’m back!

Interesting looking windshield. My Black GL1200A came with 36 EXTRA lights 26 in the rear and 10 up front. I'm of two minds about all these Christmas lights. I don't care for the aesthetics however with the amount of iPhone Zombies driving these days any extra lighting can't hurt. So what is...

    Oil

I've been using Rotalla T4 15w40(conventional) and Mobil 1 4T 10W40(synthetic) both are JASO MA 1&2 certified. My 87 GL1200A and 2007 KLR650 both have wet clutches. In my 1981 BMW R100RT I run Valvoline VR1 20W50(synthetic) Racing Oil not JASO. The BMW has a dry clutch but due the the flat...

What a day I had-Hope some one else learns from my mistakes

One more lesson should be never let a buyer ride off with your plate on the sold car/bike/truck. If this scum had hit some little old lady 10min after leaving and hit the corn fields, you would have been the one trying to explain to the cops it wasn't you that just hit grandma. Knowing the cop...

    LED headlight

In my experience the packaging should say something like "11W equivalent to 55W standard Halogen H4". The link you have posted says "Wattage: 85W/PCS 170W/PAIR" and the picture shows 13 LEDs. So 85W/13 =6.5W which would be a low power LED. And the ad doesn't even specs for the LEDs. Just Creep...

    LED headlight

Be aware of the wiring to the headlight. Factory H4 were drawing about 55-60watts at 85watts your about 40% over expected. I run an H4 replacement in both my BMW R100RT and GL1200A but they only draw 25watts, i.e. half expected and yet put out higher lumen at about 2500 than the old H4s.

    what did you do today

I've been fixing up and cleaning up the GL1200A. Installing a 4gal aux fuel tank to the pillion seat, installed my Air Hawk. Been doing several short 1-2hr rides this past week doing systems checks. About the only failure is I can't get my blasted Garmin Nuvi396 bluetooth to even see, much less...

    '78 GL1000

Damn that would be a nice part out, my wonderful loving wife immediately said "NOT ANOTHER GOLDWING!". I though but did not utter "I only have 3 bikes and only 1 of them is a Goldwing, what's the problem?" :) OC PS just added a 2007 KLR650 to the fleet. I'm trying to convince her also I NEED a...

    what did you do today

Mine was 2nd hand in 78 from the original owner who was a clean freak. It was LIKE NEW. It was the Red with a small passenger backrest and rack. I don't recall it having painted mag wheels or if they were tubeless. It was a work vehicle for me. I was a kid putting on Cedar Shake roofs all over...
