    We The People

I completely disagree with all of you- It is a sad fact that some people in this country have swallowed this Right-Wing crap- This is a Goldwing forum and I am sorry that it has to politicized- Goodby....

    Shifting without clutch?

All this talk about shifting trucks without using the clutch- About 4-5 months back I ran out of gas in my motel parking lot. I was parked at the back of the lot and there was a tanker truck getting ready to pull out- I bummed a ride down the road to the gas station. Anyway, this tractor/trailor...

    Shifting without clutch?

'Any vehicle with an unsynchronized transmission (which includes motorcycles) can be shifted through the gears without the use of the clutch if you know what you are doing. This is commonly refered to as "floating gears" and is very common when driving tractor/trailers. It is even encouraged by...

    Shifting without clutch?

Looking back at my previous post I'd like to make it clear that the clutch didn't go out on the semi- it was the clutch linkage- I could push on the clutch pedal and there was no resistance- nada. So the cluth itself was ok or else I wouldn't have been able to move.

    Shifting without clutch?

Absolutely can be done with no damage to engine or tranny- I used to drive semi's and I had a clutch go out on me in Florida and I drove back to my shop in Pittsburgh. Only a couple of problems- if you absolutely have to stop, make sure you're headed downhill. To start, put it in first gear and...

    Source for valve spring compressor?

Hoosierdaddy- we think along the same lines-Carb was running real rich- Exhaust pipes was turning blue- (HOT chrome!) what if there was so much gas in the cyl it washed all the oil off the rings? But when i did the dry compression test #2 was highest at 175, #1 (the problem cyl) was second at...

    Just Voted!!!

'The government' is nothing but the votes of people like us. We elect people who make laws and regulations that are (hopefully) for our benefit. If we don't like the kinds of laws and regulations ' the government' makes, next election we vote for somebody who says they will do things more the...

    Just Voted!!!

Yeah but everybody should pay attention to what's going on and who says what because it really does matter--- It's frustrating because most of the time they say one thing and do something else and most of them have to be on the take because money is what gets you elected- but to say voting...

    Got a new helmet today

Some people are just paranoid about doing anything financial on the 'net- mostly old people -even tho I hate to say I pretty much qualify for that myself- and I hate to label people- but how many 20-yr olds hesitate to buy stuff online- I'd say these guys are just behind the online curve- help...

    Source for valve spring compressor?

Should I trust the Harbor Freight version or go the Craftsman (Snap-on, etc) one? Thanks, Joe, for the rocker tip- Way back in the day I was on my way to Ocean City NJ from Pittsburgh where I'm from with a buddy of mine and my '69 Camaro started knocking like you wouldn't believe- we pulled...

    Source for valve spring compressor?

I bought my '80 Std this past June and had problems with #1 plug fouling in like 20 miles to the point where it was missing real bad. Compresssion is good. The plug was really sooty. I replaced the carb body and got a hugh improvement but still have an issue with that cylinder- instead of...

Mine was doing the same thing- couldn't find my Loctite blue so used a dab of black 'instant gasket'- hasn't come off again- seems like a common problem, tho, with all the responses-

    Got a new helmet today

Funny how a simple question can turn into a physics lesson- It is amazing the difference any windshield makes- My 80 'Wing was completely naked when I bought her and I had to ride her five miles on the interstate to get the original tires replaced- about the longest five miles of my life-...

What is 'dial-up', anyway? Is it something like 'carburator', or 'choke' or 'jousting' and any nunber of words that only really old people know about? The biggest difference is that good carburators still work (when properly maintained), and 'dial-up' is a dead beast- might as well use Morse...
