G'day gents... I'm looking at picking up a replacement crankshaft for my 75 project. Mine is badly scored on what appears to be 1 and 3 cylinders. Engineering company has said they can machine it but depending on thickness of bearings avail. The guy I dealt with is motorcycle nut and is well aware of bearing coding... Yahoo.
I've found a number of cranks on evil Bay... From 75 to 79.
What I want to know is... Is there a difference between the years... Ie 76-77-79. Because of the kick start mechanism on 75-76 I was wondering if it was any different.
Every journal has markings but these 2 were the worst.

i just picked up a 75 parts bike and the crank was actually broken.....
John from wingovations told me that cranks were changed in 78. i dont know if the kick start can be fitted, but he tells me the bearing journals were bigger and bearings were a little wider.
so, get a 75 /76 if you can find one.

Thanks brother.... I've got a second engine but I just don't want a million more parts scattering across my garage... Also my second engine is high mileage... Big lip at top of the bore so I'm not holding my breathe for the crank..

I bit the bullet today and stripped my spare engine.. Pretty rough on outside so I wasn't expecting much internally.
Much to my surprise and delight... In short... Bores are good at standard bore and crank is spot on as are bearing shells... See my latest post in restorations for full story...
