Speedo cable started screaming at me so new cable and housing installed using real speedo grease. Would still scream on occasion, and further research said it was because a bushing just inside the head was dry. Gave it one slight squirt of silicone spray, and all is quiet now. BUT speedo is now about 10 mph fast at 60 compared to the GPS. Guessing too much silicone got to the wrong places.

Anybody got any idea what I might do to restore the accuracy to the old head, beyond complete disassembly?

Yeah, this is way more than the normal optimistic Japanese speedo.
