Hey all... Got this ol 75 unit home. Dropped the heads of and what was inside was nothing short of horrid... Anyways I didn't really expect anything more... Hoping for better.. But...
So it would appear that while this old girl has been on side stand the no 2 cyl had some water in it... Dodgy gasket I believe being the culprit.
As you can see in the picture a large amount of pitting. You are able to see the level of where the water was(3/4) up the head.
So... Kinda thinking maybe too far gone to rebore... Maybe not... But if so... Has anyone resleeved the bores at all?

Yeah dusterdude me neither... I watched Allan millyard do his kwaka sper six barrels... And I rkn it can be done... But... Where would ya get sleeves?
I've got a second engine there... But no idea what it's like.
If I can go with what I've got at least I'll know what I have...
Engine is out now and heads are all off soo
Now I've gotta create a new workspace for the 1000.

Great video! But, where do you get replacement liners? If you need to get another short block to get liners, why not just use the replacement short block?

back in the day i worked in a machine shop that specialized in high performance 2 strokes and routinely sleeved the cylinders. we normally sourced them from LA Sleeve ( https://www.lasleeve.com/ ). not sure if the have one but the gl100 would be a challenge to sleeve as the cylinder is "floating" in the water jacket. not much to support it while boring out the old and pressing in the new. i would say the hard part will be finding a shop that would take on the job. but hey the block is pretty much scrap the way it is so what do you have to lose ? by the way there was a sign hanging in the shop that said "Speed costs. How fast do you wana go ?"

I had a reply from these guys >> https://www.dynoman.net/
Apparently they can do them. Haven't done anything for 30 years but reckons they can... So that's promising.
I'll have a look for pioneer as well. Do have any links to them at all?

There is a place called powerbore.com in ohio too

The good news is that the oil I've drained of looks good. So I think I may look at a set of randakks piston sets and a rebore..... More to come after an internal inspection

Maybe just do Joe’s trick of hand linishing and run it until it starts to improve. The main problem would be stuck rings so I would initially seal the head back on and fill with magic juice ( atf, Diesel, kero etc) and let soak for a week or 2. Don’t forget to drain all the rubbish back out of the sump. Joe has recovered engines/cylinders that you would normally find in the skip bin. :whistling:

Too late for that lol...checked documented each bearing journal. Pistons are all really good... Everything is actually quite good.. Except for no 2 cyl bore...

Looking good, you will know what you have at the end of the day. I've got one of those as well - 1200:
Clean Halves.jpg
Have everything back from the machine shop and have parts ready to go. Want to paint first. Using Circa 1850 paint stripper on the casings, and covers - works well:
Cica 1850 Paint Stripper.jpg
Going to use Dupli Color 1615 Aluminum. Intend to use zinc chromate first because of the bare aluminum, may prime with an epoxy primer, then Dupli Color. Have considered a Rustoleum product or similar, but these products take a long time to cure and harden. Know this from doing the heat protectors on my 1500. Painted these pieces with Rustoleum - combined primer/paint, let sit for a week, light sanding, clean with rubbing alcohol and some of the Rustoleum paint came off.

I'm about to send of my cases to have them all vapour blasted/honed.. If not sure what that is.. Here's a link>> https://youtu.be/E8T19Pxx2hk
Then I'll paint them with the kbs coatings.. Super hard and fuel resistant.
But I've gotta get bores done and new piston set. Considering 1100 pistons... Are the heads any different? Larger valves? Otherwise.. Randakks piston set... Prob 2nd oversize due to the bad corrosion in no2 cyl...
Goin to check with bloke locally that's on another forum that is an encyclopaedia on wings... Get is opinion on crankshaft grind and bearing sizes...

Check these coatings out be for deciding on paints... Easy to apply, better than powder coating etc.

I just spent a couple hours there as well, but I wouldn't call the time wasted. So that's what smart hands look like.
