Remember, for the 1200, Honda learned a lot of lessons in the wiring and made quite a few upgrades from the 1100.

And now, the upgrades have reared their ugly head. :hihihi:

Sometimes, it is nice to have a simple wiring system.
 
Suggestion. I would look at the 1200 schematic for the key switch first and follow each circuit that could get power with the key on (primary circuits only). With your voltmeter clamped in place, verify each one goes on and off as you cycle the key switch slowly. You might find a circuit that doesn't shutoff immediately. (Dirty key switch contact.)

Next, check the schematic for the second power lead from the battery (I believe the 1200 has a circuit to the key and a always on circuit from the battery). Follow those leads next.

Fan thermo switch is one of them if I remember.
 
Thanks. Don't mind me and these ramblings. Think I'll go to a Part 4 because this thread is now about putting the bike together and getting it on the road.
