I have à 85 Gl1200a that almost baver starts.usually just backfires out exhaust. Sometimes it starts though. I have a new full battery ( On charger always). Did the coil power supply mod with relay. Still wont start 3 out of 5 days. I have tryed no choke, 1/2 choke and Still issues. Amy suggestions?

pull all the plugs and see if they are wet and smells like fuel shut the ignition off on the handlebars shut the fuel valve off and hit the start button and see if it spits fuel from the spark plug holes. Might have a float or more stuck flooding a cylinder.

Just came back from 3 day campin and die fired right up. Will check again for morning commute.

Well an update. Last 3 mornings didnt start. Noticed very weak spark from 1/2. Starter right up 3 evenings. Good spark. Dont coils usually fail when hot rather than cool?

This 6am morning 65F 2 full 400CCA hooked in parallel. Spin like crazy small front spark and no starting. 5pm one battery and fired up instant? What up?

Any idea what electrical component works only heater or warmed? My experience they usually fail when heated.

Wondering if Run/Stop switch contacts need cleaning....my 86 did something like that, intermittent starting. Took the switch apart and cleaned contacts, stretched springs very slightly, light dielectric grease on the contacts and mechanical parts. When taking apart watch for the springs and balls flying away.

Full 12v To blk/White wire. Only use kill switch To trigger relay.

Not sure if the spark plug caps have a resistor in them but the ones that do can fail and cause weak spark if you have a flat head screw slot inside the cap where the spark plug snaps into try pulling it out and check the resistors or just replace them with a piece of metal the same size.

Would the resistors only fail when cold? Bike starts no prob if its 20c/ 72F. But not 68F
