Multiple video's to follow.
This thread will remain locked until I've edited and uploaded all of the video's then it will be opened for discussions.

For reference, Hooch is running:
* 1986 GL 1200 engine
* 1977 GL 1000 carbs
* 1982 GL 1100 heads
* 1976 "371" GL 1000 cams
* 1977 GL 1000 final drive
* ? Gl 1000 advance curves

This first video is running the C5 ignition with default GL 1000 advance curves programmed in and the rev limiter set at 6500 RPM.
GL 1000 advance curves were programmed using Honda's published data.
These curves were programmed in because Joe is running 75-77 GL 1000 cams.
I'm waiting to hear back what year 1000 curves were programmed in.

This next video is about how the C5 ignition is programmed, a look at the software, and how custom advance curves can be programmed into it.

The video is 21 minutes long because it covers a lot of information.
There is also talk about why you might want to program a custom curve:

This run is after re-programming the C5 ignition to up the rev limiter from 6500 rpm to 10,000 rpm.
The only other change from the prior run which had rev limit set to 6500 was the plugs were re-gapped to .030.
Plug gaps were VERY small in the prior run which was an oversight.

(7 minute video)

Joe's Hooch test run after max advance changed to 43 degrees.

This is a test run with C5 ignition set to a maximum advance of 43 degrees at 3550 rpm and above.

The final video in this thread is of a road test with camera strapped on.
I haven't seen it yet, waiting for it to download from Google drive which is being VERY slow.

Hooch final test run of the Meet video.

Sorry for the wind noise. We were pressed for time so couldn't experiment with placement of the microphone.

This thread is now open for discussions.

Awesome! Thanks, Dan for the great vids, and thanks Joe for letting them experiment on Hooch! A fine machine you've built there, for sure.

I'm really excited about this ignition system! It's definately in the plans for my '83 build.

:shock: Holy MOLY!!! No wonder ya'll dint get much sleep!! This was basically a Seminar for the C5 ignition system, with hands-on training! Excellent job fellers!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

:good: That's a pretty good summation. We still found time for some rides and beer though. :hihihi:

If you only knew... :smilie_happy:

sheesh guys im having trouble posting my puter is sinking to my level and that aint good ..most ride video is at low rpm and no puking its guts out at low rpm ..the hill before hiway i pulled in fifth gear ...the only tim you can get it to spit any is in no load conditions like idle ...and since the carbs have been dialed in its not doing that either

Great job. need to watch more than one time to get all the info digested.
No kiddin! Lots of really good tech talk in these vids. Way too much to take in with just one viewing... :read:

Discussion time......after hearing Joe's engine and his testimony, it appears that there is a real clean burn taking place. Would it be reasonable to expect that with the more complete burn of the gas the MPG will increase? :headscratch:

Seems logical to me but I don't know if there is any way to say at this point.

All else remaining equal and unchanged, the only way I know to increase MPG is to increase power at a given throttle plate opening. This way less throttle is needed to maintain that rpm at a given load.
Now if we have a more complete burn which increases power and efficiency then it stands to reason that we may be able to jet down and further increase efficiency in less gas in the air fuel mixture.

I know mine smells real gassy when running and burning way rich.

dang im disappointed in the video of the ride ..darn wind noise was to great to get a good feel of well the bike runs ...sheesh in going to figure this out ....I did a good job of showing rear suspension work that was nice ...most of the shift point were in the lower mid rpm zone and was very powerful there ....its seems the c5 iggy improve this flaw in the oldwings as its most noticeable feature ...and one that put ease of handling right down to 0 mph ...to get this kind of smooth power is something ive never experienced before.....a boxer motor with down low power is as smooth as it gets ......ive got many bike projects going on and the c5 is mandatory to me ...as this is the first that the surrounding parts of the motor have ever been to the level of the motor ...there going to be some really great running oldwings out there now ....bike that run better than new ever did at 30yrs old plus ...the old drop two clylinder is a thing of the past ...constant spit and sputter when cold and elsewhere ...thing of the past ....carbs never quite right cause iggy is weak and no where near accurate ..thing of the past ...carbs that dial instantly cause lower end is spot on ...something never seen before .....I think true low end torque is what every oldwing needs the most .....and as I see it so far c5 just assassinates this problem instantly

I want everyone to think hard ...if you could make your oldwing run and perform better than new ...what it worth ...the c5 iggy is a total package ....and can do this ....over the yrs me and others who very good at oldwings have never been able to do anything out of the class of treating the symptoms of the flaws in the Goldwing set up around the motor ...the c5 is the first thing ive ever seen that cures the oldwing flaws and put them in the garbage ...never to mess with the bike again .......one ....let me count that again ...one moving part ...yep no hose no spring and no error in timing .....whats it worth ...a lot to a spit and sputter oldwing ...it brings the pleasure of the oldwing hiway smoothnest right to the parking lot til stan d down or up and go ....

So Joe...tell us how you really like it.... :yes: :smilie_happy:
I'm just about sold on it....just gotta get some $$$$ saved up. :good: :thanks:
