It's hard to describe and only for lack of a better way of putting I'm going to say it sounds like a "soft muffled grinding noise," that goes away when I pull the clutch lever. I only hear it in neutral when parked, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with any aspect of shifting moving or not.

Does this indicate the need for some kind of clutch adjustment?

~O~

I'm sure there's a release, or "lifter" bearing in there, and I'm with Gerry. You can't hear it any other time because the bike is moving, or the clutch is dis-engaged. Is there even a way to adjust your clutch?

I've had several in cars that scream with very slight pressure, then go silent when full - or no - pressure is applied. With hydraulic clutches, just like hydraulic valve lifters, there is always light pressure to keep the clearance at 0.

+1 on the squealing with light pressure until it is completely stuffed like the one on my Forester which now won't let the clutch disengage :(

I forgot to mention, I've also noticed that when she is on the center stand and running the rear tire turns slowly.

~O~

Mine does that, especially when the oil is cold.

Well, I don't 'do' 1500s, but if it was an 1100 I'd say it's the primary chain and if you sync the carbs it'll shut up.

Now since I think the 1500 is Fuel injected I don't know if there's a parallel or not.

Gord (I'll go back to NGW soon) Jones

Thanks Rat, I was wondering if it was the primary. This bike had twin carbs.

I'm not too worried about it, she still runs and shifts sweet, and there is no creep like at a stop light.

It's the gears in the gearbox going around ,they stop when you pull the clutch in , completely normal.
