I tried using a syringe and hose to fill my front forks, but that just spilled oil.

After some experimentation, I found an easy way to refill fork oil without removing the fork caps.

First, put the bike on the center stand on firm ground.

Remove the hose between the front forks completely.

Then thread one end of the hose into a fork cap. Hand tight is fine.

Fill half a small container with fork oil. About a 6oz container works well. Put the free end of the hose into the fork oil.

Now pump the front end down and up. I found that after the front end of the bike comes back up, waiting a moment and then removing the free end of the hose from the oil will allow it to suck some air through. That seems to help drive the oil into the fork leg.

Rinse and repeat. Refill the container as necessary.

I found it to be a pretty quick way to refill the oil.

If you have a 1200, it gets even easier...

Drill and tap the cap to accept a bolt as a plug. When you need to change the oil, just bleed the pressure, drain the old, remove the plug, add the new oil, install the plug, then pump some air in the tubes and you are done.
