Just one man, one experience. I put Shinkos on my GL1800 many years ago (~2008), not long after they came out with a set that they claimed was for the GL1800. Front developed large blisters suddenly at around 3000 miles and Honda Direct Line (back when Hal owned it) refunded my money. I replaced the rear within 100 miles to be safe. There were a lot of these failures, and Shinko (or their importer) withdrew the line. Just couldn't handle the weight was my assumption.

Which model were you running? I have the 777 tourmaster with the hd carcass. Front rated for 805 lbs and the rear 992 lbs. Bike weight with me on is 1080 lbs. 440 frt 640 rear. Thanks

I've lost all of my records for them. They were GL1800 specific. Looked just like the Dunlop D250s that came on my '06. Handled Ok except for in the wet. Front developed palm-sized blisters on the way home from work one day.

I have a 712R on the rear of my 82 Silverwing Interstate, the price was right, and it handles just fine by me!

Ok folks, update time.got the rear mounted with no issues.the front is a different story,my tire guy tried the tire on 2 different rims I have and it would not seat the bead on either rim,I took a whack at it too with no luck.my guy thinks its because the 712 is primarily a sportbike tire and just wont work on a gl1100 rim.who the hell knows right.so I ordered the original dunlop for the front and we'll see how that goes when I get it.

Some narrow 19" front tires can be very difficult to seat and inflate. It helps to have the proper size bead seating rings for tough tires like that, but few places do. Putting a tube in those is no picnic either, lol!

One nice thing with tubeless is that ether works.

But the tube should seat the tire in tubed tires.

I always check the bead on all of my motorcycle tires regardless.

I was able to get the dunlop to seat today.hurray!!!!

Reviving an old thread. Need (desperately) a new rear tire for my '81. I'm replacing a Dunlop 404 130/90-17. I was hoping for longer mileage, as I ride quite conservatively. I'm having a tough time finding my size. Any suggestions? Thanx, Dave
Edit: Just ordered a Shinko 230 TourMaster. I have a HF tire changer/mounter with cycle tire kit. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm using Shinko Tourmasters on my '85 Limited Edition - work well. If I was putting a lot of mileage or doing touring two up, Michelin Commander II. Tried the Shinko Tourmasters on my-ex 1800, same experience as pidjones, did not last long. CT on the back and Michelin on the front, good to go.

Can't go wrong with the Shinko Tourmasters.
