Hello all! I finally got my 1982 GL1100 going and am just about to do the carb tune when the starter fails. It's happened twice before. i bought the amazon special. Am i just buying a crap part? any suggestions?

Help Support Classic Goldwings:
Check the cables, connectors, and solenoid.
The starter gets it's ground where it touches the engine block. Be sure to sand the contact spot clean on both parts. That poor ground was what made my starter act poorly.
I've read comments that the amazon version doesn't seem to endure. I'm still operating with the OEM starter.

Certain parts like this I won't get from Amazon unless it comes from a reputable supplier. Same goes for LED bulbs. A lot of Chinesium from Amazon.

My main earth cable was dirty in the connector, I have just boiled out the crud with a large soldering iron and used some Flux core .

Would a 1981 starter fit? The 81's were notorious for burning out. I carry a spare with me ever since the California Trip push-start all the way home. Gas stations were tricky, not much room.
