I purchased my partly disassembled 'Wing along with boxes of miscellaneous parts, and have identified most of them, but I have two of these locking mechanisms that I can't figure out where they belong. Can any of you experts out there help me out?
Thank you.
I did it right after I replaced head gaskets, bent valve, and valve seals before the engine was run. Maybe I should check it again cold. I checked clearances when it was hot and they were all within spec.
I have done this adjustment and the engine runs quiet when cold, but at operating temperature, the lifters are really noisy. Is there another problem here?
Still waiting for my float and needles, so I plan to take the brake master cylinder and calipers apart to assess what parts I'll need there, or whether I can just clean them up and put fresh brake fluid in.
My challenge has been to track down the right ones to replace the wrong ones. Honda apparently doesn't sell the needles any more and with all the tampered-with carbs out there, chances of finding good used originals isn't that good.
Wow, I didn't think there was that big a difference possible. I can see a couple slight differences in taper and length in mine, but not as much as your examples. As Randall states, everything affects everything, and I agree with you that mixing and matching could cause some issues.
The three brass needles have D296 stamped on them. Would they be for an earlier version of the carburetor? I read a service bulletin where Honda upgraded the brass needles to the aluminum ones in early 1982, although it was on the Nighthawk. The one aluminum needle I have is stamped 64A...
I'm a little confused here. I took apart my carbs to rebuild them and I found 3 brass throttle valve needles and one aluminum one. Can any of you carb experts tell me which ones are original? A wrecker I am dealing with says that the carbs came with aluminum needles, but from pictures I see...
Still working on rebuilding carbs. Found some unwelcome surprises... One throttle valve needle was aluminum  Does anyone know where this would have come from? A couple of other evidences of a poor previous rebuild attempt. It'll come together eventually :head bang:
