Cylinder walls are ok.
I think I can save it.

Just make sure that the pistons all come the same distance out of the bore ( deck height) :good: ( no bent rod)

FYI if you were thinking of changing the timing belts, make sure you set the timing properly. Don't ask me how I know.

You mean the valve is not supposed to look like that? :shock:

If you know, how many teeth off was your timing belt to cause that?

Anyone using these newer gell cell or lithium ($$$$) batteries?
Here's a video I made of a lithium battery that becomes overheated. This can happen if you overcharge it. This particular video is of a battery that's only 50% charged. At 100% it looks more like a bomb.

I'd not consider it!
 
gee wizz i got a dr trimmer that has a lithium battery and electric start use it all the time ...never had a problem yet ...have no idea how the charging system is set up .....have to look into that ....
 
Yuppers, lithium batteries are great until . . .

Imagine that going off under your seat. Remember that it even took Boeing by surprise on their new flagship 787 when they had several lithium battery fires and had to redesign their plane to vent the fumes out of the aircraft. If the flame and heat don't get you it also gives off Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) gas that's highly toxic when inhaled or absorbed through the skin.

I like AGM batteries more and more.
 
Yes, to each his own. They certainly are small and light. The charge rate is one issue, overcharging another, and charging the battery when it is already hot. There are internal protective devices that attempt to keep this from happening. I'm in the "risk mitigation" business and customers come to us regularly when they have found that they have a problem with these batteries. Imagine finding this out when you make $75K battery cells for grid storage applications that fill a football field - and then realizing you just might have a fire! Yes, it happens.

In my view the advantages outweigh the risks. I will be careful though in monitoring the charge rate.
What is the allure of using such a battery?
I can understand lighter if used in a weed wacker, but on a heavy bike I don't see the sense of it. Smaller yes but capacity is also lower.
Less expensive? With all the reports of them failing and burning, is less $ worth the risk?
 
The very thing the Deka guy told me a while back, not just yet. :yes: Been using A G M's for over 10 years, & STILL the best bang for the buck out there. :read:
 
AGM and other batteries lose charge just sitting on the bench. The Lifpo batteries do not. I'm terrible at maintaining batteries in machines I've pretty much forgotten.
 
AGM are significantly better than traditional wet cell technology. Here's a quote from an AGM battery manufacturer:

"Lifeline AGM Batteries have the lowest self discharge rates in the industry. Depending on the temperature at which you store you equipment, you may or may not need a trickle charger all winter. Flooded batteries self discharge by over 10% in 24 hours, and 10% every 30 days. When you make the switch, you should take a look before you hook up that old trickle charger to your new batteries."

Other AGM manufacturers generally quote 2% loss per month at 72 F storage temperature.

The Rats Nest's AGM was unused for 5 months and still managed to pump up fuel and start the engine after it arrived back in Oz :yes:
