Well the 83 and me are back on the road after the wreck. New forks, wheel, fairing and windshield and broken bones mended. I almost gave up on her but once I got it apart and realized the frame wasn’t bent I decided to fix her up and keep riding.
Oh by the way I’m now a much firmer believer in full face helmets and armored riding gear. I landed face first and my full face modular took a heck of a beating but saved my face. Armor in my jacket saved some skin.
Sure is good to be back on the road again. :clapping:

I have to admit...living in the desert, I do use a half helmet and not so much padded gear....mostly because I ride a hack pretty exclusively and believe I have much less chance of sliding down the road on my ass....perhaps an illusion but one I don't mind having...

Well that's good news, on BOTH issues! Body is healed/healing, and the Wing is back on two wheels! Still got plenty of decent riding weather left, too!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

been down three times myself and always wore helmet, however its always been a open face. one time i landed on the side of my helmet the second and third time was on top, i guess i keep tucking my face away without realizing it, however i do have a full face now. getting ready for a modular. never wore armor, but always wear jeans and jacket. glad you up and running again.

All this talk of gear is great. I wear full face or half when its real hot. Please all who read this. Never believe anyone sees you on the bike. Never! that lump atop your shoulders is your very best safety device. Use it.

What he said. Dog gone good advise I'd say. :uparrow:

+++ AMEN to AMEN to all of that...I gues Racing in the dirt just made me frrl more comfy with protection for ME :Egyptian: :Egyptian: :Egyptian: Harry Hurt did a lot for me in the 60's, check the Hurt Report :clapping: :clapping:

Glad your ok, what happened ? Someone pull out in front of you? I wear a helmet 3/4 shell, jacket most the time, try laying on the hot street in 100+ temps. and see how it feels, if your in an accident that's probably where you'll be on the street burning the hell out of your skin...Jackets can help with that something to think about..

Thanks for all the responses. What happened, well it was the classic, woman turned left across a double yellow. Fortunately by the time I hit her I had the bike slowed down pretty well, it was a 45 zpne and I was right on 45 because the radar detector was going off. Of course the first thing she said was “I didn’t see you”, go figure. Of course she was yapping on her cell phone. What was interesting, the cop with the radar was sitting in the shopping center that the woman was turning into and had my speed at 44 before she made her turn.

What impressed me is how tough the old wing is. The impact folded the forks and took out the radiator but the frame wasn’t bent at all. I checked the neck very carefully including removing all the paint and inspecting for stress or cracks and it was fine.

My comment about my helmet and jacket wasn’t meant to imply that others should wear the same gear, and the truth is many times I don’t wear the armored jacket mainly due to the heat. I do like the full face modular helmet, I wear glasses and it makes it easy to put the helmet on without removing my glasses.

The first few days back on the bike I did have a bit of the jitters but doing fine now. Do fine myself being a lot more cautious though.

So did you slam into her vehicle and fall down or did you fly over it and land on the hard ass payment..What were your injuries, What's gonna happen, are you getting a new bike out of this? What's her insurance gonna do about it, sorry for being so noisy..I'm sure lots of guys would like to know.. She could have killed you...Someone should consider that and buy you a new bike at least..I'm talking 1800 new bike...

glad to hear your all healed up and fixed your ride, you are liveing proof that full face helmets save lives we all should pay attention to that,my son 2 years ago was at a red light when it turned green 2 motorcycles took off fast, not raceing or nothing both bikes spun out on some oil or something went down was only doing about 15 miles per hour the other bike went down to he got up shut his bike off wearing a full face helmet looked at his freind wearing a half helmet, still laying there my son went to help the man only to find brain coming out his ear dead instantly, latter he found out it was his his hi school teacher, that he tried to save. sad but he wont let me use my half helmet today, as he still cant beleave a minner spill killed the man. good luck

I went over the car and landed face first on the pavement. I don’t know what hit my knee but I broke my knee cap and cracked my wrist. I ended up with some bruises from the windshield on the bike, at least I think that what caused them. Truth is things happened to fast it is kind of hard to know exactly what happened and when.
As for the insurance, well that is probably going to be a long fight. They offered to give me five hundred for the bike, pay my medical and lost time off the job and nothing else. I turned it over to an attorney so we will see.
The woman was cited for making an illegal left turn and unsafe turn causing an accident, at least that is what my attorney said.
Speaking of the helmet, it took a heck of a beating that my face and head would have taken if I had been wearing anything other than a full face helmet. I did have a very stiff and sore neck for a couple of weeks. I know there are many opinions about helmets but for me there won’t be anything but a full face.
Thing is it could have been much worse so I feel lucky. Took a long ride this weekend with some friends did the highway 49 thing from Mariposa to Jackson then back via the valley, was a nice leisurely ride and I feel like I’m really back in the saddle now and feeling good about it. Guess is just wasn’t my time to go.

Thank goodness that you flew over the car taking only a few really good wacks and you survived, the story may have read different if you slammed into the car direct going 45 mph. You sound like a really good person we all know your not out for revenge or anything like that, but 500 bucks for your bike is an insult I hope your attorney gets you a very large settlement, and I bet he will, you have a good case..Too many bikers are dying by the hand of careless drivers on the freakin phones or texting..500 dollars that angers me...Good things happen to good people...How about all those bad dreams from the accident for the rest of your life..500.000 is more like it..Or a million...

This statement is too true!! I gotta tell ya...around here on the highway at rush hour when traffic slows to just above stop and go...it becomes pull out the phones time here in NJ! (BTW..it is illegal to text or use a phone while driving in NJ without a hands free device).

Last year I invested in a Stebil Nautilus air horn and it was one of the best safety investments I have ever made! When I ride, I know that the other drivers do not see me (no matter what I wear or lights that are on) because they don't even see me (nor care to check their blind spots) when I am driving my car! It is real bad around here....everyone is KING OF THE ROAD and if you are on the road at the same time.. :sensored: :sensored: ."YOU HAVE ENTERED INTO THEIR KINGDOM UNJUSTLY!!" :rtfm: :sensored:

(Sorry of the drama) :hi:

Back to rush hour.....hundreds of cars going the same way at the same time with nitwits who think lane jumping without signals is a great idea and texters looking at their phones instead of the road! I do get a big kick out of the fact that I can tell where they are in their text......left side of the screen....car drifts left, right side of screen....car drifts right! I always ride where I see them in their mirrors so I know they see me (if they are looking). Drift my way and the the old Stabil horn reminds them that it is illegal to text/call while driving.....and....TO GET BACK IN YOUR LANE!!!!

(BTW....whenever the horn is blown....people jump out of their seats everytime! It is a very effective safety device!

I got slowed down well below the 45 before I hit the car, I would guess maybe 25 but not sure.

Yes, the attorney says he is going for big bucks, wow, maybe a 1800 wing plus, but I will always keep the 83, just love that bike.

Funny thing is sure I was upset with the woman but man my wife, she is out for blood and she normally isn't that way at all. Some family members asked me if I was going to keep riding. I just refuse to go through life worrying about what might happen, but I am a lot more careful now.
