My past experience with old 2 strokes is they do tend to have a build up of unburned oil at the exhaust, especially slow riding or if the engine isn't allowed to get warmed up good between runs. 2 strokes in my experience don't do well slow riding, have to keep the revs up. That to me is part of the charm of 2 stroke engines.

Lot like trying to ride a chain saw was what seemed like to me :hihihi:

Now that's funny dude!! Okay, I still think the carbs or at least idle must be dialed in. When i throttle up it struggles a bit , but heck , this thing is cool man !!

I unfortunately did not take as many progress pics as i should have but here is a short video. I still can't believe i put this thing back together :rocks: :moped:

I felt the same satisfaction after putting that Honda 250 2 stroke back together from crates of engine parts.
Countless trips to the dealer looking at parts fiche to order the correct missing bolts.
I got really good at studying the clymer manual and following assembly orders of which washer or shim and bolt goes where. It was fun. Surprised now that I was able to do that before the internet, and that engine ran strong and trouble free up til the day I sold it.
Man I rode that atc hard and mostly wide open in the dunes. Miss it.

I had a thought on your throttle up problem. Check the reeds. On a old Kawasaki triple we had, a few of the reeds were weaker than the others and the sealing edge was brittle with some cracks in them. It throttled up much better after putting in new ones. That was an insanely fast bike for the time.

Low oil level in the 2 stroke oil tank, pretty sure.

oil tank is full...
Have to trace it out then. Do you have a manual or wiring diagram?

Could the red light be for a charging issue????
Okay, I just found out what it is. Yup, it's a charging issue.
Now, with that being said, the regulator has a built in starter switch, and it has never worked. I might have miswired ( if that's a word) something in there. I've cleaned all the points and on the start button too.

well I guess it could be oil mixing pump to gas gas not working ..better not run it much till you find out that this oil mixer is working good

Yeah, this might explain the lack of smoke we noted earlier. You could always just premix the fuel and not worry about it. Did that on a Yamaha Blaster 200 quad. It didn't mind and continued blasting right along.

But, it might be an easy fix - plugged orifice or something.

back to no electric start . I can't believe i missed this. I checked the brushes and there are 4 of them, all 4 were broken off so that explains the red light and no electric start. new ones on the way , then we will see.
Right cylinder has slightly oiled plug so shes running lean, will have to adjust that carb. Cool bike though, ive had people stop me to ask what year, thinking its from the 70's. when i tell them 67, their jaw drops. i should keep this one.

My 1600 kawasaki is in the process of a total facelift. will get a pic of that. And.............i still have my 1100 wing hidden in the shed. there is no heat out there and last year the coolant pipe split, so this year i drained the coolant. i guess that is safe to do .....
Later

Here's the kawasaki 1600, going for the low fender look with no lights in or on fender. chose an interesting color, matte french cream.
