Evaporust it is.thanks.

well, brother, that's what I'm gonna do.I am glad you confirmed it.I am not sure evaporust can go inside an engine, but something can.

I used both Evaporust and PB Blaster on my restore.
Evaporust on exterior parts and fuel tank and it worked very well for those but I wouldn't likely use it inside the crankcase
My engine was never seized but did sit for over 12 years
PB Blaster is an incredible penetrant, I dosed my cylinders with it like fogging before running it.
It smoked like a chimney for several minutes but that stuff will break free anything including rin gs.

I used it once to free up a frozen idler pulley for an auto ac and it never even sqeeked again.

it is in a spray can-my pb blaster. So just spray the heck out of it down each each plug hole? Then wait a day or so?

Ive used silikroil penetrating oil for years . Suppose to go into a one-millionth inch space. https://www.kanolabs.com/penLub.html
Use it to clean rubber goods all tha time no problem.Cleaned my seat with tha stuff years ago first time I braked hard slid clean up on tha tank

Yep! Wait at least 48 hours in my opinion. Give the PB Blaster maximum time to work.

ok.thanks for heads up.

I drove 65 miles but it was worth it.My project had no carbs, manifolds, boots, linkage, nada.I also did not have a front fender.Got it all plus 2 more carbs for what if parts for$120.Better than i could find on ebay plus no outrageous shipping charges.

I bought a 78 with a 1100 motor in it,not sure what year. The bike has almost no value as it is.The top tank shelter piece is missing. No saddlebags or trunk. The headlight I guess was inside a fairing, its gone.It has the good looking wheels, not the comstars. So all the chassis is rolling, missing the plastic which i was going to discard anyway. But, the carbs are off, have been for a long time.he left it outside uncovered. So all the sparkplug holes and carb mount holes are uncovered.Might have been rained in a million times, who knows? I have found engines on ebay, but this bike is probably not worth fixing. But here is my question: I saw one link where a guy completely rebuilt an engine, all new parts.Cost $2400.The parts are more than 2 whole bikes might cost.Is it worth rebuilding a motor?practicality says no.I find a good looking bike with say 50,000 miles for 1500-2000 and it runs for another 50,000 miles.Thats the way to go.I suspect if I tore this engine apart it would be pure rust.I was thinking about doing it just to learn how they are put together.Your input will be appreciated.
I'm not sure if you were properly informed on the year of your bike. The 78 did not come with fairing, saddlebags, or trunk. Only a luggage rack. Also, the comstars WERE the factory rim for 78. And the 1100 wasn't valuable until 79, and it ran thru 82. If yours IS a 78 frame, then the motor and rims have been swapped for newer. Also, check the engine numbers to be sure, because the 1100 valve covers will fit on a 1000 and can fool you. Do you have all of the paperwork for the bike, or is this a basket case build that you picked up? The engines didn't change much from the 1000 to the 1100, so if you know the 1000, you shouldn't have any problems that you don't already know how to fix. I love my 78 GL1000. Post some pics of yours. I love seeing what other people are working on.

Excellent!

It is definitely a 78.That is clearly shown on the frame plate left front side of the frame. It does have a luggage rack.Someone had put a vetter fairing on it.Since they did not come with one.It was laying on the ground. The brackets to mount it to the bike are still on the motorcycle so they will be thrown away. The fairing shell is ok on the outside, no windshield.I hate vetter fairings, this one will also be trashed.I drove about 135 miles to get this bike.I can tell by the way things were jury rigged it was naked originally. The signals look like they were mounted on the forks originally. The headlight ears are still there thankfully.I have no headlight. The original style on ebay are $75.I want to get a modern one with easily replaceable bulbs.Plus i do not like chrome headlight buckets.I have not written down the engine number to research it.It might really be a 1000 with1100 valvecovers.I was amazed after having sat so long, and the past few months outside that the motor turned over real well.I had put rags in the carb holes and it blew them out on both sides.I figure this will take me a real long time to get the bike right.I have seen hundreds of restomod naked wings. That is my preference too.

wow! I just bought that headlight! That is so cool.My kind of custom modification.I hope it comes with instructions. Thanks so much for that link. That will be my best mod on this bike. And the single carb and manifold hasnt been ruled out.I just dont have that much money to be trying different things and I bought a set of stock carbs off a guy.

Probably won't have instructions. But H4 headlight bulb plugs right in to the stock plug. Signal lights should be two wires each.Black, white or green wires should be ground. The other color should be power to the signal lights. If you leave a pair of incandescent signal lights up front and just add the led the flasher will work just fine.
