GL1200 Stator Test Procedures

I think I have cooked the stator in my 84 Standard :crying: so I am looking for the testing procedures. I had a png file of it in a previous post, but that link seems to be broken. The motor that is in the bike has about 70K miles on it, so I really am not that surprised if it is gone, but I want to at least make sure before I pull the darn motor out of the frame.

I think this pretty much sums it up. Ansimp has an additional check using a current load, maybe he'll post.

It may be cheaper to go with an external alternator, if you fabricate your own brackets. I took that route with my 86 Aspi and don't regret it.

If this was my 87 Interstate, that would be my first choice. Since this is my 84 Standard... :nea: Luckily, the stator is putting out more than 50V on all three legs, so I kept looking until I found this:

I use these automotive connectors all the time and they are great but the actual female crimps Loose some tension on the male spades with age and create a poor connection which in turn generates heat through arcing.
