Hi Chick, just had the same problem with my gl1000, to fix it I ran a new wire from the 30a fuse by the battery to the regulator, removed the black sense wire from the loom plug , fitted a new terminal to the cable and fitted it to this plug. Now charged at around 14.5v with the lights on. The problem with this was there was a constant current draw of 11ma, to solve this I used a relay to switch the sense wire, used the original sense wire to trigger the relay and connected the other switching terminal to the green wire in the regulator plug (earth). The regulator always senses battery voltage and is not powered when the key is off. Only cost a bit of cable, some terminals, a 12v 30a relay and plug. Hope this helps
