If you find a section of road which has a safe 1/4 mile that is easily recognisable you can actually work out your rough quarter mile times from your terminal speed

Or download the app that does quarter times

Haven't you seen Joes video camera mount? I don't hold out much hope for a phone that takes apps :smilie_happy:

I know exactly what you mean about the bike feeling like it comes off the ground in second gear. I am not an experienced rider. Is that normal for a shaft drive? If the stock 1200 had 94 hp the 1000 cams would put it over 100, I think. Torque probably higher but moved up a bit. Joe's bike may have even better torque with the longer intake tract. Thinking of putting my 16 Lester on it scares me.

Joe, from what I can tell Hooch is a 1200 with early 1000 cams, C5 ignition, single weber carb. What am I missing; are they 1200 heads? Did you shave them at all to raise compression? Gearing?

I need to know. :thanks:
Brian

it has 1100 heads ... 75-77 year 1000 cams ....pistons has increased intake valve cut outs so the valves dont hit pistons....heads are not shaved ... compression is actually lower i think just a tad ...and the gearing spread is wider in 1200 motors ... and when mixed with the 1000 final drive gearing makes for some drag like gears in the lower gears....and the fifth gear that pretty much like stock 1000 fifth gear .... all together making a super powered street bike ...most crotch rockets are not any bigger motors....with the small flywheel of the oldwing motors makes for a rev monster if fed the right gas charge ....who ever thought a oldwing motor could run like this

Hooch the sport bike!
Just watch out for that too fast first corner, they certainly don't slow down like a sports bike

went for small ride to check out mirrors .... they seemed fine ... playing with this bike in first gear is just simply insane ... bumped the secondary with full intent just get in and out ...did it perfectly ...still about tore hands off the bars ... when i got to where i wanted to turn around five minutes later ...i decided id hit it in second gear a bit ...sheesh there is no words describe this feeling of intense fear from speed .... i just curised home and parked it ... mirrors are fine

Joe, you're fallin' in love with this bike! Maybe it should be called "Smooch"!
:smilie_happy: ROFL

up date it dawned on me last night that i never tried the 45 idle since ...i drilled the throttle plate to get extra air ....well so this morning i changed it from the 50 idle jet it had .....the outcome is ..i am competely backed off the fst idle screw on linkage and mow the idle mix screw is out about 1/2 turn and the idle is much better and not surging like it was .... before with the 50 idle jet ... the the idle mix screw had to be closed off completely or it would run rich ......kind of makes sense really the idle jet in stock oldwings is .35... 50 is kind of huge in comparison ....havnt test rode it yet so still mid stream on this move

Getting close to perfection, Joe!

yes steve its getting close..... just got back test ride ... hooch has got total idle control... and there is problem of loosing the idle during ride ... id say the mpg will come some now ...idle is hanging right 1100 rpm and lower ... not saying it better than stock just different ...as are the set ups are ....after the 50 or so mile ride the bike pull the gravel drive of mine at idle ..people that been no this is rather steep and bumpy drive once park it idle away till i turn it off ...its in complete zone of total ride ability ... this bike runs like it would go anywhere easy ... the strait weber carb is making great gas charge :thanks:
