The bike has 91,000 miles. I will be tearing into the front brakes first. They are stuck on (typical). Then I will work backward with coolant, rear brakes, oil, rearend, and finally the carbs. GLWrench (Louis) from Green Bay is going to help me do a full carb restoration using Honda parts and document it as a "time lapse" video.

If all goes well I'll be riding it to the Illinois meet and greet. Because we will be creating a new ignition for the GL1000 using the smaller M series, I'd love to have one installed before I leave home but I'm still testing it with other bikes and might not have one ready.

What tires do you guys use on the 1000? I am fond of Avon (never liked Dunlop) or Michelins but really never pounded out miles on my older bikes.
I will be installing a sidecar, in case that matters.

Wow, I am SO glad she didn't leave it in there for 10 years, or loose the title, or both. You rescued it long before it was real mess or only good for parts. I'm sure the PO is looking down, happy to see it fall into the hands of someone that will take good care of it.

Yesterday and today I cleaned the carbs. I'll be ordering a few new o-rings before they go back in.
The front brakes were nasty and I had to drill out the bleed screws. Calipers stick unfortunately so I'll be tearing them apart as well.
Over all the carbs were not bad. I think he drained them before storage. Plenty of fine rust powder but the tank will be etched anyway.

My goal is to get it on the road before the Meet & Greet in Illinois. Plenty to do yet and not much time or $$ but all I can do is try!

Carbs are back in. I used Milk Stone cleaner (acid) to etch the fuel tank. This is the first time I've used it, and it worked great. I flushed with water, then gasoline, then filled to the top with gasoline and Marvel Mystery Oil. My new battery comes tomorrow and the front brake master cyl was cleaned and lubed up today.

Wow, lots of time spent getting things working again. Rear brake arm was seized but an hour of work and its working great. I just might get this beast running in time for the Illinois meet and greet!!

I wished there were other Classic members in Wisconsin. My kids have no interest in this project and it's more fun working as a team.
Hopefully tomorrow I can hear it run for the first time.

Maybe if you showed them some of the Hooch vids and others they might see how nice these (ancient) bikes are. New is almost always shiny but not always better.

My oldest son Alex has a vintage Z50 all modded up and must faster, but thinks all Goldwings are lame. He is into fast cars mostly.
My son Jeremy works at the dealership I used to, and he gets to deal with the "new" Goldwing owners. His opinion is not much better LOL. Damn kids aren't into making classic vehicles go faster!
Well last night I got the fuel tank etched using Milk Stone Remover (dairy farms use it) for the first time. It worked awesome! I'm slowly getting things fixed and "unseized".

Today I ended up tearing down both front calipers and the master (again). Every 3-4 times I hit the brakes it would stick on.
I also installed a new battery and found only one coil works. No power is getting to the points. How ironic that I am using as a company test bike and I can't get it to fire on all 4 cylinders! Hopefully its just a chewed wire from the mice.

Well I ran out of daylight and the mosquito swarm came to visit. Time for a cold Pabst!!

Points?!?! Isn't that against your religion? :hihihi:

Well gosh, so many people say that points are great and NEVER fail. I thought maybe i'd start selling C5 Points ignitions.
You know, make a little extra cash 'cause the Porsche needs new tires.
